Jamie Chung reveals she used a surrogate for her twin sons because she was ‘terrified’ being pregnant would hurt her career

Seven months after welcoming twin sons via a surrogate, Jamie Chung is opening up about why she chose to go that route.

The 39-year-old actress welcomed twin sons seven months ago with her husband of six years Bryan Greenberg.

‘I was terrified of becoming pregnant. I was terrified of putting my life on hold for two-plus years,’ Chung admitted. 

‘In my industry, it feels like you’re easily forgotten if you don’t work within the next month of your last job. Things are so quickly paced in what we do,’ she added.

‘So it’s a compromise that we made together as a couple,’ Chung clarified.

The actress publicly revealed that she had frozen her eggs back in 2019, though she kept her pregnancy private, adding there was, ‘a little bit of shame.’

‘It’s still not a very common thing and we weren’t ready for judgment. We really just did it to protect ourselves,’ Chung admitted. 

‘We announced things when we were ready to,’ Chung said, while admitting she’s aware of the perception others might have of her for using a surrogate.

‘People probably think, “Oh, she’s so vain. She didn’t want to get pregnant,” and it’s much more complicated than that,’ Chung added. 

‘For me, personally, and I will leave it at this, it’s like, I worked my ass off my entire life to get where I am. I don’t want to lose opportunities. I don’t want to be resentful,’ she admitted.

The actress has been promoting her partnership with Duracell’s #PowerSafely Campaign.

The program was launched to help spread awareness and reduce accidental ingestions of lithium coin batteries. 

The program is especially timely for her since her twins, which she and her 44-year-old husband have not revealed their names, are starting to get into things around the house.

‘My number one priority is to keep my kids safe. If a kid swallows a battery, it could be catastrophic,’ she said.
