Jamie Redknapp, 47, has shared a cheeky insight to his experiences with fatherhood during a candid chat. It comes amid reports that he is expecting his third child with girlfriend Frida Andersson following his split from ex-wife Louise Redknapp in 2017.

The former professional footballer quipped he had the perfect excuse to avoid night feeds with his two sons, Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, when they were babies because he was busy playing football.

During a conversation with fellow football stars Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas for L’Oreal Men Expert’s Father’s Day Campaign, Jamie opened up about being a dad.

The pundit agreed with his friends that the secret to parenting is “winging it”.

Addressing how he coped with night feeds, Jamie divulged: “We had a lovely excuse when we were playing [football]…

“Didn’t really work when I was off injured though.”

Jamie then reminisced about his own upbringing and what his dad Harry Redknapp was like as a parent.

When quizzed on the subject by Peter, the presenter said: “He wasn’t mad for advice… like the birds and the bees we never had any of that, we never had that discussion.”

Peter then joked: “The person who told me the birds and the bees was actually Harry.”

The podcast host, who has four children with wife Abbey Clancy – Sophia, 10, Liberty, six, Johnny, three, and Jack, two, also revealed that he became more confident as a dad when he welcomed more children.

He said: “With the first one you’re marking everything down…by the fourth you aren’t doing any of that.”

Jermaine told the duo that he is looking forward to welcoming a baby boy into his all-female family with wife Ellie, who is pregnant with their fourth child.

Jamie joked that The One Show host “won’t be outnumbered anymore” in response.

Although Jamie and Frida have not yet publicly announced the news that they are expecting a baby together, Harry Redknapp, 74, revealed he is “excited” to be a grandad again.

Jamie’s dad Harry also said he and wife Sandra are still in touch with their ex daughter-in-law Louise and the rest of the family.

It comes after a source claimed Louise was “knocked sideways” by the reports about Frida’s pregnancy.

Express.co.uk contacted a representative for Louise at the time, but received no comment.

Former Tottenham manager Harry added they are all doing “great” and that all is fine with Louise and Jamie, according to The Sun.

Jamie’s mum Sandra Redknapp added her spouse will not be helping their son with the nappy changing and joked he didn’t do it before.

Frida, who Jamie started dating in 2020, is a model and already a mum to four children.

News of her pregnancy first emerged when some of her followers shared congratulatory messages on an Instagram post she had shared.

In response to a fan, she replied with a “thank you” emoji, seemingly confirming the news.
