Jason Gardiner has had a radical career change after quitting showbiz to become an eco-friendly farmer in Portugal. 

The Australian choreographer, 49, was best known for his role as a controversial judge on Dancing On Ice, before he stepped down in 2019 following his bitter dispute with contestant Gemma Collins.

And now Jason has turned his back on the entertainment industry to pursue a career as a ‘Nomadic Permaculture Designer’.

Jason is living in Portugal and, after doing a course in biodiversity and sustainability, is travelling to different homes to teach them how to become more eco-friendly.

Jason told The Sun: ‘I was very lucky during lockdown. A neighbour of mine kindly offered that I get to use her allotment.

‘It changed my life. It was really quite profound and a beautiful experience. It put me on a different trajectory.

‘We are moving towards being self-sufficient whether we like it or not. Being a grower of food and being sustainable is the future.’

The former Dancing On Ice judge posts videos on his Instagram where he talks about his lifestyle changes, including chopping wood instead of central heating.  

He captioned his last 2020 Instagram post: ‘HERE’S TO A SUSTAINABLE 2021 What a tumultuous year it has been! 

‘We’ve all lost so much but we gained time… time to reflect, change and let go. 2020 was about clear vision, seeing the truth for ourselves. 2021 is all about what you choose to do with the truths you’ve learned.’

The publication reports Jason has however signed up to Cameo, where he charges £8.24 for a time-limited online chat and £15 for flexibility videos.

Back in 2019 Jason took to social media to confirm he would not be returning for the 2020 series of Dancing On Ice. 

The cutthroat judge said: ‘I know there has been a lot of speculation about me and the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice. I wanted to set the record straight, I’ve been an original judge since 2006.’ 

‘I’ve done every series except one, when I was replaced by my good friend and dance sister Louis Spence in 2012.’   

Jason received backlash for his cruel comments towards TOWIE star Gemma, who competed in the show in 2019.

It sparked rumours ITV were lining up a new judge to replace him.

He said: ‘Ignorance is bliss, I don’t know about this. I don’t engage on the social media platforms like that. 

‘It’s something that I find gets magnified and distorted and people jump on a bandwagon. You can’t really buy in to it.’

When told his comments had been interpreted as fat-shaming, he added: ‘Oh god no. If people are taking it that way I’m really sorry. It was a way of diffusing any tension and making light of the situation.’

Gemma had previously hit out at Jason for ‘bullying’ her over his comment and announced she wouldn’t be at the final because she didn’t want him to be ‘anywhere near’ him.

He was later replaced as a judge by John Barrowman.
