Jennifer Coolidge isn't interested in replacing Kim Cattrall in SATC

Legally Blonde’s Jennifer Coolidge says she’s not interested in taking on Kim Cattrall’s role in Sex and the City: ‘I don’t think you can replace her’

Kim Cattrall’s exit from the Sex and the City franchise left open a possible vacancy for a new actress to join the famous foursome.

Legally Blonde’s Jennifer Coolidge, 59, has been suggested by many on social media as the perfect person to step into Samantha Jones’ high heels in the upcoming SATC limited series.

However, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week, Coolidge revealed that she isn’t interested in the role since no one ‘can replace’ Kim.

Irreplaceable: Jennifer Coolidge revealed that she isn’t interested in replacing Kim Cattrall on Sex and the City during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week (Pictured in 2020)

‘I was a huge, and still am a huge, Sex and the City fan,’ Coolidge told Andy. ‘It’s one of those shows you can just watch the reruns and never get tired of them.’

Cohen had prefaced his question to Jennifer by saying that there has been a growing number of people on social media floating Jennifer’s name to join the cast of And Just Like That ….

Despite the support, Coolidge explained that she doesn’t think she – or anyone else for that matter – could do what Kim did for six seasons on HBO and to films.

‘I have to say I am such a Kim Cattrall fan, and I don’t see anyone being able to replace her in that part,’ Jennifer said via video chat. ‘It was just the perfect … I don’t think you can replace her.’

Ironically, Coolidge played a small role in an episode of the series back in 2003. She’s most famous for her role as Paulette in Legally Blonde and the sexually charged ‘MILF’, Stiffler’s mom, in American Pie.

It seems that SATC star Sarah Jessica Parker agrees that there is no replacing Samantha and said recently that there would be no fourth character added in the reboot.

The entrepreneur made the revelation as she was seen heading to the Seaport location her SJP shoe boutique in New York City on Wednesday morning.

‘We’re not looking to create a fourth character, we have New York City as a fourth character and it will be an interesting new character that we are excited about,’ when asked by Adam Glyn of YouTube page Adam’s Apple.

It’s yet to be revealed how the writers will handle the Samantha Jones character in the forthcoming limited series which follows Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda now in their 50s.

SJP and Kim Cattrall have a longstanding feud and Cattrall has made it abundantly clear that she has zero interest in being Samantha Jones ever again.

Earlier this week Cattrall threw some thinly-disguised shade at her former castmates by ‘liking’ a fan tweet that ‘applauded’ her decision to ‘put herself first’ and refuse to take part in the upcoming reboot of the HBO show.

The 64-year-old actress has yet to make a public statement about the news of the series’ revival, but she made her feelings about it perfectly clear with her reaction to the tweet, which praised the star for ‘doing what is best for her’.

The tweet read: ‘I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattrall.’
