Singer Kelis has had heartbreaking news as her husband Mike Mora and father to their two children has announced he has been diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer.

The photographer has posted a series of messages and snapshots on his Instagram page since last week, where he revealed the difficult journey he has been forced to go on.

The 36 year old explained that he first started experiencing worrying symptoms and the "worst pain" in his stomach when he and his family first moved to a farm in California last year.

The dad-of-three was then given the devastating news from his doctor he had a type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma and was already in stage four of the aggressive disease.

He was given an endoscopic biopsy at the time, but sadly doctors discovered it had already spread to his lymph nodes and back and he was given a prognosis 18 months left to live.

“Loss of appetite. Pain in my back also started to creep in…finally decided to do something about it,” he told his followers last week. “It was a bit late. But just in time.”

The star also shared a black and white shot of his arm hooked up to an IV drip and other wires, admitting he'd battled over whether to share his personal journey with the world or not.

"I am posting this…after so much thought. Many hours thinking of what the right thing to do is," he shared. "Not because of a selfish reason. Not because I want people to feel bad or sorry for me and my family.

"I am posting this because life is full of the most unexpected situations. I never thought this could happen to me. At just 36, with 3 kiddos, and a wife that loves me."

Mike went on to say his main reason came from wanting to help others who might be experiencing the same diagnosis or similar of a "life-altering disease full of questions and doubt".

Remaining positive, the artist continued: "By showing that it’s possible to make it through. You always see people post about how life is too short. How you should reach out to those you love no matter where life has taken you.

"It is the truth. Don’t take your time here, your time with friends, family, for granted. S**t can be over just like that! This was the first of many, many more iv’s and needles to be pricked on my arm… The story will continue.."

The photographer also made sure to tag his beloved wife – the iconic Milkshake singer Kelis – in his posts saying he loves her.

The couple only welcomed their first daughter together last September as well as already sharing five year old son Shepherd.

Kelis, 42, and Mike have been married since 2014, and the singer also has a 12 year old son named Knight with her ex-husband and rapper Nas.

Since sharing his news, Mike has also thanked his fans for the "overwhelming" support and "love and words of encouragement" ever since.

Saying he was "so grateful", the star added: "It’s been emotional. But overall I think it’s making me stronger. I have tried to respond to all messages. If I have not, please forgive me. I have never had so many messages in my life. Love to all. The story will continue."
