Metallica have launched the Metallica Black Box, which offers an ongoing deep dive into every era of the famous heavy metal band’s four decades-long career from the early ’80s garage days up to the current multi-platinum status.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to travel to all corners of the planet, meet so many amazing people, and do things we once only dreamed of. And when you’ve been around for 40 years, you manage to collect a few things,” Metallica shared on its website.
“Along the way, the four of us have hung on to many keepsakes, photographs, articles of clothing, sketches, and so much more, stashing these items away in attics, garages, and storage spaces,” the band added. “But no more as we’re excited to launch The Metallica Black Box.”
The band’s current lineup includes founding members and primary songwriters James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo.
The band said they are now officially “unboxing” their collections and pulling their favorite, most significant, and personally meaningful artifacts in collaboration with Inveniem and Definitive Authentic.
Features available in the Black Box will range from weekly live-stream events to extremely limited signed memorabilia.
“In the weeks, months, and years ahead, The Black Box will venture progressively deeper into the vaults, the sounds, the visuals, the instruments, the culture, and beyond,” Metallica.
The Metallica Black Box is making its debut with The Black Album Exhibition.
Additional artifacts to The Black Album Exhibition will be posted before the end of the year.
“Next year we’ll return with new exhibits, including a 40-year retrospective and a showcase of the incredible creations of the brilliant graphic artists we’ve worked with over the years,” said Metallica.
