EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Forte tycoon who gave the Tories £100,000 for the election tells Boris Johnson he has to get wife Carrie under control because ‘she actually tells him what to do’

Sir Rocco Forte was such an admirer of Boris Johnson that he paid for a £12,000 party to celebrate his victory in the Tory leadership contest before handing over another £100,000 to back the Conservatives at the last General Election.

Now, however, the hotel tycoon and leading Brexiteer has launched an astonishing attack on the Prime Minister for failing to ‘control’ his wife, Carrie.

‘One of the important things, of course, is to keep his wife under control,’ Sir Rocco told guests during a speech at a Club Di Londra dinner at Brown’s Hotel, which he owns in Mayfair.

The guests were mainly Italian businessmen, but his Italian wife, Aliai (pictured, with Rocco), was also present. He added of Boris: ‘Unfortunately, when we elected him he didn’t have a wife, and now’s he’s got a wife who had a child, then a second child, and actually tells him what to do.’

Admitting his views are sexist, Forte said: ‘I know I’m a misogynist, but this is a bit too much for any country.’

Sir Rocco, 77, is the son of Trusthouse Forte owner Lord Forte, who was forced to bow out as chairman of his hotel empire at the age of 83, causing a family trauma.

Sir Rocco has admitted of his 1992 battle for power with his Scottish- Italian father: ‘The only time we really came to blows was when I took over.’

Lord Forte, who became Britain’s best-known hotelier, was reluctant to step down from the business he had founded in 1934. A close ally of Margaret Thatcher, he died in 2007 aged 98.

Sir Rocco, whose family fortune was estimated at £345 million before the pandemic, recently announced that he would withhold further donations to the Conservatives.

He added of Boris: ‘Unfortunately, when we elected him he didn’t have a wife, and now’s he’s got a wife who had a child, then a second child, and actually tells him what to do’

It was a big U-turn as he’d previously sung Boris’s praises, explaining of his £100,000 donation in 2019: ‘It is the first time I have given any money for a long time, because until now I didn’t believe in the leadership. I didn’t believe they were true Conservatives.

‘I have made big donations in the past — in the Thatcher days and in the initial years of John Major’s government — but not after that.’

Daisy, 23, who wore a Gucci three-piece suit with flared trousers at Milan Fashion Week, adds: ‘It would be so fun to learn all those stunts and sequences.

‘I’ve never been on something of that scale, and I can imagine it would be absolutely gobsmacking.’

With her love of long-haul private jet hire and photo-ops around the world, Liz Truss would appear born for the role of Foreign Secretary. Yet, according to former Cabinet minister Rory Stewart, she didn’t always covet her current position. ‘How did it grow back? That’s a mystery,’ says the Oscar winner, 52. ‘I shave it all off, then I get this ointment and I rub it into my scalp for ten minutes a day.

‘No Propecia [a prescription drug used to treat male-pattern hair loss], no nothing. I have more hair now than I had in 1999.

For Irish TV chef Clodagh McKenna, there’s one drawback to living on the Highclere estate in Hampshire — where Downton Abbey is filmed — with her new husband, the Earl of Carnarvon’s brother Harry Herbert. 

‘I always have to push myself to get all I can out of what we’ve got in the cupboards, because we live so far from a shop,’ she tells me at the Royal Ascot Chefs launch. 

‘It’s at least half an hour to the supermarket and it’s just not worth it. So I have to make up new recipes all the time. I come up with about two a week.’

Michael Jackson’s daughter clearly doesn’t hold grudges. Paris Jackson, 23, is embarking on her first solo tour as a singer and, I hear, she’s hired entertainment company AEG Live to promote her concert in the French capital this weekend. 

AEG Live was unsuccessfully sued for more than $1billion by Jacko’s mother, Katherine, and three grandchildren including Paris, after the king of pop’s death in 2009. 

They blamed the company for appointing Conrad Murray as the singer’s doctor ahead of his planned 50 concerts at London’s O2 Arena. 

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after giving Jackson a deadly dose of the sedative propofol. Katherine was ordered to pay AEG Live £800,000.
