Nicki Minaj’s Husband Sentenced to Home Confinement Despite Prosecutors’ Push for Serious Jail Time

Kenneth Petty is sentenced to a year under house arrest in addition to three years’ probation and a $55,000 fine for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

AceShowbizNicki Minaj‘s husband has dodged prison. Kenneth Petty has been sentenced to home confinement for failing to register as a sex offender in California despite prosecutors’ push for serious jail time.

On Wednesday, July 6, Kenneth was sentenced to a year under house arrest in addition to three years’ probation and a $50,000 fine, according to local news outlets. His legal team seems to be pleased with the decision as his attorney Michael Goldstein said in a statement to USA TODAY, “We appreciate and respect the Court’s decision granting the defense request for probation and home confinement.”

The home confinement is less severe than federal prosecutors’ call for Kenneth to spend 15 months in prison. It was previously reported that prosecutors argued that 6 months behind bars followed by supervised release is not enough punishment for Kenneth, who pled guilty to the offense. They noted any home confinement ordered as part of his supervised release would be spent in a huge Calabasas home where he and Nicki live.

In the court documents, prosecutors also blamed Kenneth’s relationship with Nicki for his failure to register as a sex offender. They pointed out that Kenneth had been keeping up with his sex offender registry paperwork for nearly 20 years until he began dating his now-wife.

“The timing of defendant’s lapse in registration is concerning, given that it occurred when defendant began dating his wife, quit his job, moved to Los Angeles, and adopted an affluent lifestyle,” prosecutors wrote in the court documents.

“Defendant has been completing sex offender registration documents for nearly 20 years,” the filing went on stating. “Over the course of two decades, he was repeatedly warned that if he moved to another state, it was his responsibility to follow any local, city, state, federal, or international laws regarding registration.”

Kenneth had to register as a sex offender because he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in the state in 1995. In November 2019, he was arrested during a traffic stop when authorities noticed he failed to register in California. He was later arrested again for failing to register as a sex offender in March 2020 and pleaded guilty in September 2021.
