‘I was convinced I didn’t have the virus’: Peter Andre reflects on his battle with Covid and says even doctor wife Emily wasn’t sure because his symptoms weren’t ‘textbook’
Peter Andre and his wife Emily have reflected on his battle with the coronavirus, as he said he was ‘absolutely convinced’ he didn’t have the virus at first.
Making an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, the singer, 47, and doctor, 31, warned viewers not to ignore their symptoms as it could be the virus.
Detailing how he felt at the time, Peter began: ‘It’s quite unbelievable everyone has different symptoms, don’t ignore your symptoms because they’re not all going to be the same.
‘I was absolutely convinced I didn’t have the virus’: Peter Andre reflected on his battle with COVID-19 on Tuesday’s GMB as he revealed even doctor wife Emily wasn’t sure he had it at first
‘To the point when I had symptoms and I was absolutely convinced I didn’t have the virus, even you were convinced right?’
Emily then chimed in: ‘It wasn’t textbook how it presented in you, and it was a lesson for us that you have to be vigilant of your symptoms.’
Peter told co-presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that he had a temperature, body aches, and a cough that was persistent enough for him to be concerned and get a test.
‘The key thing is once I went and got the test we self-isolated for ten days so we knew once we got the positive result that in that ten days we could not infect anyone else, and that was massive for us,’ he explained.
Advice: Emily claimed Peter’s symptoms weren’t ‘textbook’ but they got tested to be safe and discovered he was positive, as she said: ‘It was a lesson for us that you have to be vigilant’
‘There were a couple of [bad] days, but people have had it far worse than me, one of my cousins is still on oxygen now, he’s worse than me so it goes to show everyone has different symptoms, you can’t ignore it, you cant.’
Peter explained that his cousin continues to suffer from coronavirus and has been on oxygen since before the singer contracted the virus.
‘My cousin and his son were sick, they were both sick, both in hospital, and both on oxygen and his son was younger than me,’ he said.
‘Psychologically, what this is doing to a lot of people, we are so scared about what is going to happen and how it’s going to affect people.
Be careful: The couple urged viewers to not ‘ignore their symptoms’ as they said ‘There were a couple of [bad] days, but people have had it far worse than me’
‘When I heard my cousin was still in hospital now it really brought it home how serious this is.
‘I get people I kid you not, I had someone yesterday said to me yesterday ‘I can’t believe you’re being a puppet for the media trying to tell people this virus is real, you disgust me.”
Emily concurred as she added: ‘I think sometimes you can’t persuade some people if they’re so fixed this is a big conspiracy. How many horror stories do we need to hear, how many frontline workers do we need to hear from for it to be real?’
Emily, who has been working on the frontline as a NHS doctor, is set to have her vaccine this week, and she said that while she is looking forward to it she is happy for those who are vulnerable to go ahead of her.
Struggle: While he is no longer suffering from coronavirus, Peter said that he still hasn’t recovered his sense of smell and was ‘completely puffed out’ when he went on a short bike ride
She explained: ‘I thought I’d wait until I can have it and just be on standby so I look forward to it.’
When Piers asked her about the potential 12-week wait to have the second booster, she went on: ‘I mean for me I don’t feel worried, I am in position where I’m relatively young and healthy so from my perspective I was feeling there are others who need it more.
‘In terms of the second dose I do feel happy if I get just one dose, research shows that even if you get the virus after 12 weeks you still have protection, to me it’s about getting [the vaccine].’

Shocked by the after effects of the disease, he admitted: ‘I’m 47, I exercise and I feel quite good, and I had a doctor in the house and there were some nights where I woke up where I’m finding it hard to breathe and she’s saying its okay its anxiety.’
Emily chimed in: ‘It’s because you see it in the media, where you see young people have it so it makes you worry.’
The Mystery Girl hitmaker then added: ‘Imagine elderly people who are on their own, imagine how they feel?’
Peter, whose battle with the virus was revealed earlier this month, recently said his own battle had left him wanting to sleep constantly as he shared a clip of himself slumbering at home.
