Remainers plot to hijack the Eurovision Song Contest final

Remainers plot to hijack the Eurovision Song Contest final by handing out tens of thousands of EU flags for the audience to wave in a bid to turn event into ‘anti-Brexit propaganda coup’

Anti-Brexit campaigners in Liverpool plan to hijack this weekend’s Eurovision Song Contest final by handing out EU flags which they want the audience to wave throughout the event.

The pro-EU Liverpool for Europe group has secured 75,000 EU flags for Saturday’s event, which will be aired live by the BBC and TV channels across the globe.

The organisation hopes to mirror the scenes at the Last Night of the Proms event at London’s Royal Albert Hall two years ago, and turn Eurovision into an ‘anti-Brexit propaganda coup’.

One activist confirmed the protest was being co-ordinated with the Liverpool for Europe group and several other organisations.

They told the Daily Mail: ‘We’ve been urging people to wave EU flags outside the arena at the semi-final events, but on Saturday, when the audience will be at its biggest, we are going to get as many flags inside as possible.

‘Liverpool is an anti-Brexit city, and we want that message to come across.’

Eurovision rules state that small flags can be taken into the arena.

Hard-Left campaigners say they are planning to continue anti-Israel protests outside and inside the Liverpool Arena venue.

The Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall has been targeted by anti-Brexit activists over a number of years. In 2017, Nigel Farage condemned EU flag wavers for ‘trying to make it all about them.’

Meanwhile, a BBC executive has admitted the ‘main worry’ for broadcasters holding the contest is a cyber-attack by pro-Russian hackers, The Guardian reported.

The first Eurovision semi-final took place on Tuesday with the designer dresses worn by hosts Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon attracting much attention.

The women will join Graham Norton and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina to host Saturday’s final with Eurovision sources promising that their gowns will ‘be just as striking’.
