Sarah Ferguson attends the LGBT Awards in blue military style blazer

LGBT Awards: Sarah Ferguson dons a blue military style blazer as she puts on an animated display alongside drag queen Lawrence Chaney on the red carpet

Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson wore a blue military inspired jacket as she attended the LGBT awards at The Brewery in London on Friday night.

The Duchess of York, 61, cut an elegant figure in a blue midi dress, which she teamed with a military style fitted blazer of the same colour.

In keeping with the blue theme, Fergie held a matching clutch in her right hand and peep toe court shoes with diamond butterfly detailing on the front.

Her statement flame red locks were styled in a side parting and they cascaded over her shoulders in soft waves,

The Duchess later posed with the drag queen Lawrence Chaney, and they both put on an animated display as they smiled for snaps at the red carpet event.

Lawrence, 24, looked amazing as he donned a bright purple wig, and latex figure hugging ensemble.

Fergie’s military inspired outfit comes as Prince Andrew will be allowed to stay on as colonel of the Grenadier Guards even though he most likely won’t return to public duties after sexual assault accusations emerged against him.

The Queen has reportedly announced she will let her son the Duke of York, 61, stay on in his honorary role despite the allegations he denies.

But military chiefs fear that him not being able to perform public duties will embarrass the forces.

A senior military source told The Sun: ‘The Queen has let it be known to the regiment that she wants the Duke of York to remain as colonel and the feeling is that nobody wants to do anything that could cause upset to the colonel-in-chief…

‘How can you have a colonel who can’t perform the role? …You can’t have a colonel who can’t do public duties.’

Prince Andrew has also kept other honorary commands including colonel of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, colonel-in-chief of the Yorkshire Regiment, commodore-in-chief of the Fleet Air Arm and honorary air commodore in the RAF.

Trio: She also posed with TV stylist Gok Wan, 46 and Loose Women presenter Linda Robson, 63. Gok wore a chic all-black ensemble for the event

Friends: Linda looked summery in a mid length striped dress and a cropped denim jacket paired with a pink scarf around her neck, as she posed with her arm around the Duchess

The move suggests the monarch is supportive of her son who stepped back from public duties ‘for the foreseeable future’ after his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein surfaced in 2019.

During the evening, Fergie also posed with TV stylist Gok Wan and Loose Women presenter Linda Robson.

Gok, 46, put on a chic display in an all black ensemble as he posed next to the Duchess.

Linda, 63, looked summery in a mid length striped dress and a cropped denim jacket paired with a pink scarf around her neck.

Linda and Fergie were all smiles as they posed with their arms round each other before heading into the event.

The outing comes after Fergie’s first book has crept onto the bestseller charts – despite critics branding it a ‘boring slog’ with no sex.

The book, Her Heart For A Compass, which is based loosely on the life of her ancestor Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott, received mostly negative reviews in the press after hitting the shelves earlier this month.

Critics branded the book ‘boring’ and a ‘slog’ with an ‘insipid’ main character and a tone that jumps between ‘archaic and contemporary’. Almost all commented on the lack of sex and said it was at the ‘PG end’ of Mills & Boon.

However according to The Guardian, Her Heart for a Compass sold just over 1,000 copies sold in the last week, putting it in 10th place in the hardback fiction chart.

Fergie said she was ‘absolutely delighted’ with the news, saying: ‘It really is a dream come true and I’d like to thank everyone who has been buying the book so far.

‘I hope they are enjoying the exploits of my headstrong, redheaded heroine Lady Margaret and are spotting the parallels between my own life and hers.’
