Strictly’s Hamza’s terror as he ‘nearly dropped Jowita’ in record-breaking dance

Strictly Come Dancing star Hamza Yassin confessed to nearly dropping his professional partner Jowita Pryzstal as he appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday.

The 32 year old wildlife presenter won over the judges with his performance on Saturday night and received the highest score of the series so far.

However, he revealed on GMB that it took a few near-accidents in rehearsal first before the pair nailed the routine.

After receiving praise from hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, Hamza admitted he “came close” to dropping Jowita as he was joined by his dance partner on the morning show.

"I came close to dropping her," Hamza said. "There were a few times where, the last lift, I wobbled and I caught her. Luckily I caught her, but um yeah, there was a certain fear through the whole dance with that lift there.”

Despite the close calls, Hamza pulled off his performance and scored three 10s from the judges.

Rewatching the routine, host Richard, 66, said: “And then that spin, I mean look, the way it finishes off!”

Hamza explained: “There’s constant communication while we’re dancing, you might not always hear it.”

“On the actual performance?” Richard asked.

“You have too, to keep in time,” Hamza responded, before Jowita shared that the pair “have a code” they use on the dance floor.

“For me that’s what I need,” Hamza added.

Jowita agreed, as she said: “I think it’s important to support, still even on the night, and he did. He just blew my mind on the night.”

Hamza even managed to win over tough judge Craig Revel-Horwood as he received a 9 from the panellist, coming leaps and bounds from the previous weeks when Craig scored him considerably lower.

Hamza shared his reaction following his near-perfect score on GMB, as he said: “I was flabbergasted. I just wanted to finish the routine and do it correctly.”

The wildlife presenter and partner Jowita explained that all they wanted “was a six” from Craig, so they were overjoyed with his scoring.

The judges had nothing but positive comments to give the BBC presenter on Saturday after his routine, as Craig said: “What has happened tonight darling? Everyone has taken a magic dance pill or something. Ah-maze-ing.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas added: “You are daddy cool for me now. And I have one word for you, per-fect-o.”
