Talking about the discovery Jill said: ‘I really wanted it to be Tom and at the end of episode when they said “it’s a match, he’s your son”. I was like “yes, yes, yes” and then I thought “there’s a whole another episode to read”, but I didn’t call it at all.

‘I didn’t thank that was going to happen.’

During the interview, Jill was also asked if a second series could be in the works.

She replied: ‘Yeah I think it could. If they had a story, they could do it like The Missing. I don’t know if there’s another story, but it is a possibility, it would be great.’

The actress also talked about how she managed to maintain the Jodie’s characterisation after filming had to be suspended due to lockdown regulations last year.

Jill said: ‘I just kept thinking I have to keep her clear close in my head because I know when I get back they’d want to go straight in.

‘It’s almost like muscle memory, you do your research and your like yeah, I know what I’m doing.

‘I was so worried we wouldn’t go back. I would honestly have been broken-hearted if we didn’t go back.’
