He shot to stardom as a child actor in Love Actually when he was just 13.

And fans of Thomas Brodie-Sangster were shocked to learn that the star is now 30-years-old following an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning.

The Queen’s Gambit actor detailed staying ‘grounded’ after entering the industry at a young age, while appearing to discuss his latest project, Dragon Rider.

Host Holly Willoughby commended him on getting out of child acting ‘unscathed’, after many actors in the same situation have struggled entering the limelight during their childhood.

Thomas said: ‘Well good, I’m glad to hear. It can be, it’s a strange life to lead as a young person, it was a life I loved, a life of adventure, and I kept somewhat grounded and relied on my friends and family, and I’m still riding the wave.’

Thomas also touched on being widely recognised, and said: ‘That has happened. I’m always amazed at how good people are at recognising people.

‘I’ve been at the lights [on his motorcycle], with the helmet on, visor up and the kit changes how you look but a cyclist went I love you in game of thrones and cycled off.’  

Elsewhere, talking about his new animation film, Thomas said: ‘It’s about adventure and travelling, I was always very entertaining.

The film features an environmental message for childhood and Thomas admitted he thought it was vital to spread awareness about helping the planet. 

He said: ‘Me growing up we always recycled and did our little bit, it seems nowadays kids are growing up as they should knowing the responsibility of young people to help the environment.’

After Holly and co-host Phillip Schofield admitted they both learned to play chess after watching the series.

Thomas said: ‘Aw thank you, it was great fun I don’t think anyone on the project thought a project like chess would do so well. Chess magazines are very happy with us because we made chess cool again.’

Thomas said the chess was taken ‘very seriously’ and almost every game played on the show was based on a famous game in history.  

He said: ‘Pretty much every game, was based on a game in history, and the way they won the game was reminiscent of what the character was going through in that moment
