Love Island’s Wes Nelson, who was a millionaire at 21, has revealed he’s lost interest in expensive material possessions and has given away his £145,000 Mercedes.

The reality star turned musician has enjoyed enjoyed chart success with two platinum-selling hits, made a fortune from TV appearances like Dancing on Ice and The X Factor: Celebrity, and made investments in properties and cryptocurrency.

But he has had a change of heart about his earnings and has got rid of his new swanky wheels just seven months after showing off the car on Instagram.

He now says he’s given up driving and he wasn’t bothered about losing another very valuable possession recently, because he gets more satisfaction out of helping people and being kind.

Wes, now 23, told The Private Parts podcast: ‘My dad and my brother have my car now. I’ve realised that as soon as you get one thing you want the next thing anyway. It’s actually so dead.

‘This is the first time I’ve not drove in my life – and I love driving. Because I know what I’ll be like, I’ll want to get a new one and I’ll want to get this.

‘The more you have, the more money you probably make. They come hand in hand, but at the same time it sucks. You don’t want more, it just comes with doing more.’

He said he only started feeling anxiety once he started making lots of money.

But now, even though he continues to have lots of money rolling in, he does things he enjoys but isn’t bothered about having expensive items.

He said: ‘I think being around nice things and stuff you just realise how empty they are.’

Wow: But he has had a change of heart about his earnings and has got rid of his new swanky wheels just seven months after showing off the car on Instagram

He said he recently lost something ‘very, very expensive’, which he would not name, but added: ‘I can remember just feeling afterwards, I feel like I haven’t really lost anything.

‘As shi*ty as that sounds, it just doesn’t mean anything. I’ve got so much more pleasure from just helping people and going out and doing good things. It just fulfils me.’

The former nuclear systems design engineer also said he only bought lots of properties – which he had to buy in cash because he was too young to get a mortgage – to have money to be able to chase his dream of music success.

He’s previously said he owns enough to never have to work again and in May he went on social media showing off his flash new Mercedes-AMG G63 and posting a video of its red interiors.

Wes also admitted that after Love Island he had intended to return to being a nuclear systems engineer ‘but straight away got asked to do Dancing on Ice’.

He said: ‘That was another three or four months of my life gone, and then we just started to doing PAs (personal appearances), and some money started rolling in.’

He added that he only bought the properties as an income so he could give music a try.

Impressive: Wes recently performed at the Jingle Bell Ball at the 02, where Justin Bieber exchanged numbers with him and said he wanted to collaborate with Wes in the future

He said: ‘That is what I did my properties for originally, I wanted to get all these properties, so I could sit back and do what I love to do, which is music.

‘People said ‘did you go on Love Island so you could do music?’ But actually it’s been more of a hindrance I think.’

Wes, whose parents live in Stoke-on-Trent, said he owns properties in the town, but would not say how many, and he’s also bought into cryptocurrency.

He explained ‘I do have gaffs in Stoke. My dad is now retired and he goes around to all the gaffs. My mum and my dad retired last year and now they basically run round the properties and check the boilers aren’t broken and stuff. He does my admin and everything.’

In the past he has said: ‘I was a millionaire by the age of 21. And that’s not being a show off or anything, but it’s wise investments and understanding this life doesn’t last forever.

‘I have a passive income and generational wealth, so my children, whenever they come about, they’re not going to have to work again. I don’t have to work again.’
