I'm a hairstylist and these three styles will instantly make you look 20-years-younger | The Sun

AS WE age it's not uncommon for our hair to become thinner.

This means that the hairstyles you once loved might not look as great over time, and could even add years onto your look.

But as the hair follicles get smaller and the look and feel of hair changes, there are some changes you can make so your hair works best for you.

In fact, there are three hairstyles that can make you look decades younger, according to one pro.

Pixie cut with a side part

Many people think a short pixie cut will age them, but done right it actually has the opposite effect.

The bold look highlights cheekbones and other facial features which can result in an age-defying look.

Jean Will, hair expert and co-founder of NiaWigs Inc, told She Finds that a pixie cut with a side part is the best way to interpret the style.

Adding a side part is a more modern interpretation of the style which also adds fullness to the hair.

In fact, it can “make over 40-year-old women look like they are in their 20s," she revealed.

Layered bob with a fringe

If you're not ready to go full pixie, a layered bob is a great option as well.

It's also a good style to go for if you're hair is more on the wavy or curly side of things.

You can also go for this style if you don't love styling your hair every morning and want something more low-maintenance.

The hair pro explained that adding layers and a fringe to the bob will help hide any thinning and create the illusion of thicker hair.

In fact, the style is “perfect for women over 40," she revealed.

Asymmetrical bob

Another way to add some thickness back into your locks is to ask your hairdresser for an asymmetrical bob.

Gina Rivera, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Phenix Salon Suites told She Finds that the style can create a "youthful appeal."

Not only that, but if your hair is fine it can make your locks seem thicker while hanging onto some length.

The asymmetrical style can also help “remove some of the damaged ends” which make hair look brittle and lifeless.
