Daniel Craig pays tribute to ‘incomparable’ Queen Elizabeth after her passing

Daniel Craig has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following the announcement of her death.

Craig, who has starred in the James Bond films since 2006, said he was "deeply saddened" by the news and that Her Majesty will be "profoundly missed".

In a statement issued on Thursday (August 8), Craig said: “I, like so many, was deeply saddened by the news today and my thoughts are with the Royal Family, those she loved and all those who loved her.

“She leaves an incomparable legacy and will be profoundly missed.”

Craig had a lovely personal interaction with the Queen in 2012 when he starred alongside her in an action-packed skit to mark the start of the London Olympics, with the actor taking on his famous role of James Bond.

Directed by Danny Boyle, the skit showed Bond escorting the Queen from Buckingham Palace to the Olympic Stadium in a helicopter.

An actor playing the queen was then seen jumping out of an aircraft with a parachute emblazoned with the Union Jack.

Then, suddenly, the Queen herself appeared in the stadium and was met with rapturous applause from the thousands in attendance.

Incredibly, the Queen was reported to have kept her involvement in the skit a secret from the rest of the royal family.

The real-life chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), Richard Moore, also paid tribute to the Queen on Thursday, describing her as "the longest-running reader of intelligence reports”.

In a statement, the MI6 spy boss said he was struck by the Queen's "candour, wit and burning sense of duty".

“Her Majesty The Queen’s long record of public service is unparalleled in our nation’s history," he added.

He added: "She was a source of stability, good judgment and wisdom to the United Kingdom for almost seven decades, and shepherded us through the profoundest of global changes and challenges over that period.

"We owe a deep debt of gratitude for her unwavering devotion to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth."

Moore said MI6 will "honour her and remember her legacy, while supporting His Majesty The King in his duties as our sovereign".
