Harrison Ford ‘asks fans to leave him alone’ as he shoots new Indiana Jones film

Hollywood star Harrison Ford pleaded with selfie-seeking fans to give him some space as he was followed by a crowd on a break from filming the new Indiana Jones movie.

This comes as the film legend, aged 78, has been causing a stir in the north east while filming the highly-anticipated film sequel, and has been staying in Newcastle city centre while on location.

Fans have spotted him visiting popular local restaurants in the Quayside area of Newcastle, and he's also been spotted out enjoying some exercise on his bike whilst taking breaks from filming.

But it appears that some excited fans following him on Friday (11 June) in the city may have taken things too far.

The Star Wars actor was pictured wearing a mask having a stern word with a group of fans, who are understood to have followed him along the Quayside.

A witness told ChronicleLive that the actor had left his Quayside hotel on Friday afternoon in a bid to avoid the huddle of fans who'd gathered outside.

He's believed to have left from the back of the hotel to lunch in nearby restaurant Gusto – where he's even rumoured to have left through the kitchen to avoid crowds.

But it's understood the bustling crowds just couldn't keep away and caught up with him once again as he returned to his hotel.

Unhappy with the constant attention, it seems he decided to asks fans, some of whom were not wearing face coverings, to leave.

A witness claimed he told them that he had already said he would not be signing autographs or posing for pictures and that they should go.

Cautious about Covid-19, the action superstar has been careful to wear a mask during his visit to the north east, and was seen back in January getting his first dose of the vaccine soon after it first became available.

He's also shown his concern about the pandemic through his work – back in 2020 he narrated a public service announcement urging people to take part in vaccine clinical trials to develop the vaccine.

The new Indiana Jones movie, the fifth in the hugely popular series, will see Harrison return to the silver screen as the intrepid archaeology professor.

The fifth movie will see Ford finally return to his iconic role as Jones after more than a decade after the fourth film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, came out in 2008.

It is currently scheduled to hit cinema screens in summer 2022.

Daily Star Online has contacted Harrison Ford's spokeswoman for comment.
