Harry says car trip with Diana was one of 3 times he felt ‘helpless’ as a royal

Prince Harry has lifted the lid on the anguish he felt growing up in the Royal Family, listing three main moments of helplessness in his life and how is he has tackled his frustration through therapy.

The Duke of Sussex said that he used to bottle up his anger about feeling trapped inside the Firm and under the media glare, and it was advice of Meghan Markle that he realised that he needed help.

He told the Armchair Expert podcast: "Helplessness that is my biggest Achilles heel.

"There were three major times that I felt completely helpless [as a royal], one when I was a kid in the back of a car with my mum being chased by paparazzi, two was in Afghanistan in an apache helicopter and then the third one was with my wife [having the conversation about therapy]."

Harry moved to California with Meghan last year after stepping back as a senior royal.

He told the podcast: "In my early 20s it was a case of I don’t want this job, I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be doing this.

"Look what it did to my mum, how will I be able to settle down, have a wife and a family when I know that it is going to happen again because I know.

"I’ve seen behind the curtain, I’ve seen the business model how this operation runs and how it works, I don’t want to be a part of this.

"Then when I started doing therapy suddenly the bubble was burst […] you are in this position of privilege stop complaining or behaving as though you want something different, make this different. "

Harry also revealed he met wife Meghan in a supermarket and compared his life as a Royal Family member to The Truman Show.

The interview with Dax comes two months after the Sussexes' bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which the couple bravely spoke about the struggles and issues they had within the Royal Family.

Spotify announced a multiyear exclusive license agreement with one of the world’s most listened-to and shared podcasts, the award-winning Armchair Expert podcast, co-hosted by actor, filmmaker and comedian Dax Shepard and Emmy-nominated producer and personality Monica Padman.
