Meghan and Harry ‘hiding behind Joe Rogan drama as excuse for podcast delay’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are “hiding” behind the recent controversy surrounding Joe Rogan, using it as an excuse for their podcast delay, a royal expert has claimed.

Harry and Meghan signed a lucrative deal with Spotify after stepping down from their royal responsibilities in 2020.

However, with over a year since the first and only episode of the couple’s Archewell Spotify podcast having been released to the public, commentators recently claimed that the streaming giant had taken matters into “its own hands”.

More recently, Spotify has come under fire after another exclusive podcaster Joe Rogan was accused of spreading anti-vax misinformation on the Joe Rogan Experience.

The Sussexes released a statement expressing concerns to their bosses, but said they were “committed to continuing” their work with the service.

Now, speaking on the Palace Confidential podcast, Charlotte Griffiths, Editor-at-large of the Mail on Sunday has suggested that the Joe Rogan controversy might have been a positive distraction for the ex-royals.

“I don’t think they’d ever hand the money back,” she began.

“But they could sort of hide behind this because it’s been a good year or so since they actually released a podcast.

“Archie spoke his first words on their last podcast, so that shows how long ago it was.

“I have heard that there have been problems with the podcast, and quite how the formula’s going to pan out, they can slightly hide behind this and use it maybe as an excuse for another delay.

“I don’t think they’ll be handing the money back, they might just be hiding behind this for a few more months."

And The Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden observed the difference in output between Rogan and the Sussexes since they had signed their deal.

“Credit to Joe Rogan… From what I hear he’s a really hard worker, he apparently produces about 200 podcasts a year. My goodness, we’ve only had one from Harry and Meghan for £18million so they’re hardly providing value for money are they?” he suggested.

“Yeah, he’s probably thinking, 'God, I churn out this content every week, who are you guys to chime in and say I need to ‘meet my moment’ with Spotify?'” Charlotte agreed.

This comes as an unearthed podcast clip from the time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the royals shows Joe Rogan mimicking the Queen, and calling Meghan a “little American hussy”.
