M&S issues statement about Holly Willoughby’s future with brand after queue-gate

Holly Willoughby is set to continue as the face of Marks & Spencer in the wake of "queue-gate" after the brand confirmed it had extended the This Morning presenter's contract.

Fans of the ITV show were left incensed after Holly and co-presenter Phillip Schofield dodged the huge queues waiting hours to pay their last respects to the Queen as she lay in state at Westminster Hall because they were filming a segment for the show.

Holly, Phil and ITV have insisted that the pair did nothing wrong, despite a petition for the pair to be sacked attracting more than 65,000 signatures.

Earlier this week, The Sun revealed that Holly had refused to step down from the programme and now seems to have gained the backing of retailer M&S, for which she is described as an ambassador.

An M&S spokesman reportedly said: “I can confirm we have extended our current contract with Holly, and we will continue to work with her."

Holly's fans feared she had been weeping over the incident ahead of Wednesday morning's (September 21) show, but an ITV insider said: "She has been devastated by all the negative reaction after she turned up to work at Westminster Hall with Phil on Friday, but she's not going to resign.

"This Morning has been her life for more than a decade and the only way she'd consider quitting at this stage is if viewers really didn't want her there."

Earlier this week Holly had claimed she and Phillip fully adhered to the strict media rules during their visit to the lying-in-state of the Queen.

During their first broadcast following the incident, Holly said they were part of a list of accredited broadcasters who visited the Hall.

She said: "We were given official permission to access the hall, it was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven't been able to visit Westminster in person."
