Naked & Afraid star Melanie Rauscher has died at the age of 35, under "mysterious circumstances".

Corey Kasun, a representative for the local police department explained that Rauscher had been dog sitting in Prescott, Arizona, at the time of her tragic death while the homeowners were away on holiday.

TMZ reported that the body belonging to the TV star had been recovered next to a number cans of dust cleaner.

The same publication also claimed the cans of compressed air were established next to her body.

It is not yet known if Rauchser had absorbed the contents of the cans that were found close by.

Rauchser's deceased body was discovered on the bed of the guest room by the homeowners when they had returned from their vacation on 17 July.

According to police, no suicide note was left at the scene and obvious signs of foul play were unapparent and there was no drug paraphernalia.

Cops also confirmed that the dog had not been harmed.

The reality star's cause of death will now be determined by the Yavapai County Medical Examiner.

Rauchser appeared on the popular American TV programme Naked & Afraid and proved to be one of the most promising of the 14 contestants.

The Philadelphia-born star first appeared on the programme in 213 and later returned for the spin-off show XL in 2015.

The shocking and tragic news left fellow campmates "broken" as they took to social media to pay tribute to the recreation specialist.

Former co-star Jeremy McCaa told his Facebook fans that he was left "feeling broken" after Rauchser's sudden death.
