Piers Morgan has hit out at Loose Women star Denise Welch, branding her a "nasty piece of work" – and encouraging her to sue him.
Piers, who recently launched his new flagship show Piers Morgan: Uncensored on News UK's new channel TalkTV, has come under scrutiny for his viewing figures recently.
And Denise wasn't afraid to call him out on it, tweeting: "Piers pressure. Talk: not so cheap.
"With £4 million spunked on launch advertising for TalkTV, and Piers Morgan's flagship show drawing its lowest audience yet on Wednesday (44,000) some frantic buck-passing is going on at News UK.
"Rebekah Brooks has been reminding people whenever she can that this wasn't her idea. Piers is blaming Tom Newton Dunn for having no viewers (literally zero on May 3) for him to inherit.
"The Ealing studio and the Baby Shard are barely co-operating, and Daisy McAndrew's show is being lined up on the chopping block. The in-fighting isn't confined to News UK either.
"Sky News Australia are also furious because they already had their own in-house blowhard (Pete Murray) who they had to bump to make space on the schedule for poster boy Piers.
"Only Piers has lost them viewers and they've had to pay for it."
The former Waterloo Road star captioned the post of the message, which scathingly read: "Couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke."
Piers took the opportunity to reply to Denise's scathing comments by posting her tweet with the comment: "Awww, Little Miss Mental Health being unkind again… anyone would think you’re a hypocritical fraud playing the MH card for ££."
Denise then fired back: "The same man who said I wear my depression ‘like a designer handbag’ & that Will Young doesn’t have PTSD he has WNTS (whiny needy twerp syndrome’) . That’s why people are glad your show is bombing Piers."
Piers clapped back in another tweet: "I’ve got no time for mental health frauds like Denise Welch who cynically exploit MH for money & preach about kindness but are horrible human beings."
Things were far from over, however, as Denise then posted: "Piers Morgan cared nothing, not one jot about how his constant scaremongering and anxiety inducing ranting impacted the mental health of this nation over the last 2 yrs. Anything for headlines. I’ve been a mental health advocate for 33 yrs. He’s put the cause back 20yrs!!!"
Piers then branded Denise a "shameful hypocrite" and slammed what he called "sickening lies", adding: "So many D-list ‘celebrities’ like Welch now ruthlessly exploiting mental health for personal financial gain. I see right through them all. Wonder how much cash she’s now banked from playing the MH victim…"
But things turned even icier as Denise fumed that Piers had defamed her – with him then inviting her to sue him.
Denise fumed: "Piers. This is now defamation of character. I have been a very vocal advocate for mental health and those living with mental illness. I am an active ambassador for several mental health charities & have shared my own illness for 33 yrs. How dare you accuse me of financial gain."
But Piers fired back: "Aww diddums. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out. You’re a nasty piece of work who epitomises the fake #BeKind brigade. But feel free to sue me, just remember to bring all your book profit receipts…"
Keen to put an end to the row, Denise said: "Omg Piers grow up. When I did your Life Stories you were decent, well researched & incredibly empathetic to my history of depression. I questioned you ONCE about the terrible comments on Will Young. You blocked me & said the most awful things. I’ve never forgiven you. The End."
