Tom Daley's husband, Dustin Lance Black, has taken to social media to confirm that he recently sustained a "serious" head injury.

The American screenwriter, 48, opened up about the injury, revealing that it was so severe, he was advised to "shut off my brain" in order to recover.

In the post, he admitted that it had been a “challenging, frightening time”, but that he was on the “long road back” to being well.

Dustin, and British Olympic champion, Tom, took a trip to Greece to help the former with his rehabilitation.

He took to Instagram about his ordeal, writing: “A month ago, I sustained a serious head injury that put me out of commission.

“Showing little improvement, my doctors ordered me to shut off my brain in hopes of it healing. This has been a challenging, frightening time for a creative type who depends on what’s in his skull to work, care and love.

“And now I understand the road back will be long. But this week my sweet, over the top husband took us to the Greek Islands to make me shut off.

“I can already feel this trip is a step in the right direction, and I finally feel safe sharing a bit again.

“Thank you for all of your love and patience. More to come. Promise.”

Dustin uploaded a series of pictures alongside the post, of the pair on their Grecian getaway.

In one snap, he could be seen walking along a pebbly shore in a loose white shirt and swimming trunks.

He also included a photo of himself holding a glass of white wine, standing in front of the deep blue sea, alongside a photo of him and Tom, both wearing sunglasses and smiling at the camera.
