There have been many bizarre conspiracy theories about Adolf Hitler’s death over the years.

The evil Nazi leader shot himself in the head on April 30 1945 in his air-raid shelter in Berlin, as his dictatorship collapsed above him.

French scientists have even examined a jawbone kept in Russia and compared it to Hitler’s dental records, allowing him to be identified by his false teeth.

But that hasn’t stopped a deluge of wild claims that he didn’t actually die – but escaped instead.

One of the most persistent among conspiracy theorists has been that he smuggled himself to South America.

Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin is said to have first fuelled the oddball theory, by telling an American envoy that Hitler had escaped.

According to one such theory, he fled his bunker in Germany and made his way to Argentina, where he spent the rest of his days living.

Declassified US intelligence documents are reported to have further added to claims Nazi leaders, including Hitler, had escaped to South America in the dying days of World War Two.

A September 1945 file from the FBI archives contained eyewitness accounts Hitler had arrived in Argentina by submarine a few weeks after the fall of Berlin.

The account stated: “By pre-arranged plan with six top Argentine officials, pack horses were waiting for the group and by daylight all supplies were loaded on the horses and an all-day trip inland toward the foothills of the southern Andes was started.

“At dusk the party arrived at the ranch where Hitler and his party, according to [redacted], are now in hiding.”

And an October 1955 CIA memo reportedly contained claims from Phillip Citroen, a former SS trooper, that Hitler had been hiding in Colombia before heading to Argentina.

Citroen claimed he met with the Nazi leader in Tunja, Colombia in 1954, according to the Miami Herald.

Meanwhile, Brazil is another country it has been bizarrely claimed the dictator escaped to.

Simoni Renee Guerreiro Dias, who penned Hitler in Brazil – His Life and His Death, insisted he actually died, aged 95, in 1984 in a small town in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

The author claimed he settled there to hunt for buried Jesuit treasure with a map from allies within the Vatican, the Express reports.

She said the Nazi tyrant went by the assumed name of Adolf Leipzig and was known by locals in Nossa Senhora do Livramento as "the Old German”.

The author even claimed a photo proves her strange theory.

She says it shows him two years before his death with his black girlfriend Cutinga – arguing it was part of a ruse to hide his vile views on race.

But academics have rubbished the theory.
