Bride’s dad to be brought ‘back from the dead’ for daughter’s Metaverse wedding

In what is undoubtedly a first (and could end up being the last) a couple has announced they will be having a Harry Potter-themed wedding in the Facebook Metaverse.

The bride's deceased father will also be brought back to life through an avatar to officiate the nuptials.

The coronavirus pandemic has meant many couples have had to scale down or delay their weddings but one Indian couple has found a way past this by hosting theirs virtually.

The move has been well received on Twitter after the invite was shared by the groom who claimed it will be 'India's first Metaverse marriage.'

Currently, there are strict limits on the number of people who can attend weddings in India with areas like Delhi only allowing 20 guests.

Using technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality, the 'metaverse' allows people to be physically present in a virtual world.

To put it simply, the Metaverse is a futuristic new 3D version of the Internet that people can physically enter.

The couple's virtual wedding will be another step forward in their cyber relationship having previously met online through Instagram.

According to Sputnik, Dinesh S. P. and fiancé Janaganandhini Ramaswamy first met on Instagram and are looking forward to their nuptials on February 6.

After a ceremony in a village, the festivities will move online and they will hold their reception party in a digital Hogwarts.

Speaking to the Times of India, Dinesh explained his reasoning behind the move.

He said: "I came up with the idea of having a Metaverse wedding reception. My fiancee also liked the idea."

In a further weird twist, Janaganandhini's late father will also attend the wedding, in an avatar form, and will preside over the ceremony.
