Dogs ‘will sense zombie apocalypse is coming’ and will try to warn us humans

Dogs will know a zombie apocalypse is coming before scientists do – and they'll try to warn us.

Dr Cameron Carlson of the Zombie Research Society says Brits should listen to their pooches if they start acting shifty.

He believes their powerful senses mean they will know the undead are coming before the first one even rises.

Dr Carlson said: “The one animal that we would see giving us signs about what to do would be dogs.

“Dogs are extremely sensitive to changes in the environment and changes in the physiological state around them.

“Since we are in contact with dogs so much of the time, any change in any environment is going to set them off.”

He also reckons they could be able to sniff out a zombie virus way before the dead start walking thanks to their powerful sense of smell.

Changes in atmospheric pressure and natural phenomena carry odours that only our furry friends can pick up.

Many dog lovers agree that their four-legged friends possess a sixth sense – a stronger-than-human ‘gut’ feeling when something feels off.

Pooches are more open to trusting that gut feeling and will warn us of an imminent invasion through their behaviour.

Most could start acting stressed or scared at the start of a zombie apocalypse.

Behaviour signs include excessive panting, licking their lips, hiding, cowering or aggression.

Our pooches would also warn us by standing differently.

Dogs aware of changes taking hold of the world will often stand with their weight forward in a stiffened posture.

A more aggressively inclined pup would stand with its weight backward, head tilted upwards and ears back.

Even small dogs – known for their above-average aggression – would be kind enough to warn us of the walking dead.

Dr Carlson said: “Even if you were looking at small dogs, like even chihuahuas and pomeranians, you’d notice a change in their demeanour.

“They’d still change, whether or not they knew something was going on.”

Other animals that can warn humans are birds and scavengers, such as foxes and badgers.

Dr Carlson added: “Birds change their flight patterns slightly based on their surrounding environment.

“But they won’t go to certain areas, so you’ll see birds beginning to flock away from danger when an apocalypse is looming.

“Of course, if they’re scavengers that’s a different story. Scavengers will go towards an area that’s rich in food.”

Dr Carlson warned Brits that the best way to survive a zombie apocalypse is not to wait for your pooch to start acting strange, but to build on survival skills now.
