Man starts leaving flowers at ‘sad’ grave – then realises it belongs to killer

A man has shared the unconventional story of how he met his wife after putting flowers on the grave of a stranger – who he later discovered was a killer.

It's not every day that people experience a 'meet-cute', which is charming or amusing interaction between people, possibly strangers, which then leads to a romantic relationship.

But that's exactly what happened to Matt – or @sixthformpoet as he’s known on Twitter. The only difference is that his story is so full of twists and turns.

This story will leave you glancing at the tombstones of strangers, wondering about their life stories the next time you're in a cemetery.

His story begins with him visiting his father’s grave quite frequently and noting that the grave directly next to his father’s was never adorned with any flowers or frequented by visitors on any of his trips.

Over time he became increasingly curious until he looked at the gravestone and realised it belonged to a 37-year-old who had died on Christmas day.

Something that Matt described extensively on Twitter, saying: “He NEVER had flowers. Died on Christmas Day aged 37, no one left him flowers and now there’s a pop-up florist in the grave next door. So I started buying him flowers. I STARTED BUYING FLOWERS FOR A DECEASED MAN I’D NEVER MET.

“I know it sounds weird but I came to think of him as a friend.”

Beginning to question whether he shared some kind of unknown connection with the man and thinking of what could have brought them together, Matt made the decision to Google him to see if he could discover a little more about him.

What he wasn’t expecting to discover however was that the man was in fact a murderer. No need to adjust your glasses, you did in fact read that right, a murderer.

A twist so shocking that it only seems right to let Matt explain himself.

Now, unsurprisingly, Matt felt guilty for the murderer's wife and parents and felt as though he owed them an apology, so he sought out where they were buried and went to apologise. An attempt to make things right after the ordeal.

As he was mid graveside apology, a woman suddenly appeared behind him and enquired who he was and why he was talking to the graves of her aunt and grandparents.

And there it is, the meet-cute.

With no way out of this one, Matt had no other option than to explain the predicament that he had found himself in. The woman remarked that she found it weird yet 'quite sweet' and somehow the mood must have shifted because Matt asked her out for a drink.

  • Sad truth behind funeral crashers – from gorging on free food to being lonely

As Matt commented: “Incredibly, she said yes. Two years later she said yes again when I asked her to marry me because that is how I met my wife.”

So there we have it, quite possibly the most unorthodox experience of meeting your future spouse.

The story, whilst drumming up hundreds of thousands of retweets on Twitter and reminiscent of something taken straight out of the plot of a film, has raised multiple questions regarding the truthfulness of the incredible story ever since it was originally posted to Matt’s Twitter account in 2019.
