A brazen monkey has been filmed raiding a biker's saddle bag for booze on a national day devoted to not drinking in India.
Video footage captured in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, shows the gray langur's struggle as it sits on bike seat a few feet from a police commissioner's office holding a bottle of whiskey it had stolen from a motorcyclist. The primate is seen desperately attempting to open the bottle.
It clasps the bottle between its feet and then tries to chew off the screw cap lid with its powerful teeth. But when it realises it is going to be a struggle to open the bottle, he gives up and takes a second dip into the bag for an easier snack or drink.

But the animal's antics reportedly came to an abrupt end when a voice from a distance shouted, causing it to flee the scene. Ironically, the incident had reportedly occurred during Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday celebrated on October 2 to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
The day is also known as dry day in India, where the sale and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited. The Joint Commissioner of Kanpur, Anand Prakash Tiwari, claimed that he did not know about the video and would investigate to find the owner of the bike with the liquor bottles.
The news comes after a group of wild monkeys wreaked havoc on a local supermarket in a raid for bananas.
