According to a recent report published in the British Medical Journal, there are 11 risk factors that can increase or decrease someone’s risk of dementia.
The risk factors are age, education, a history of diabetes, a history of depression, being male, living alone, a history of stroke, a parental history of dementia, and levels of deprivation.
Speaking about the risk factors, associate professor at the University of Oxford Sana Suri told the Guardian: “The importance of each risk factor varies and given that some of the factors included in the score can be modified or treated, there are things we can all do to help reduce our risk of dementia.”
