Twitter users mock Elon Musk’s rebrand as it leads them to racy adult site

Elon Musk's big Twitter rebrand has led some social media users onto a very different type of website.

Earlier today (Monday, July 24) billionaire tech mogul Musk swapped Twitter's iconic bird logo with "X". He announced the shock plans just yesterday and now searching "x.com" into a search bar will lead you directly to Twitter.

The news comes as part of Musk's plan to transform the site into an "everything app" incorporating audio, video, messaging, payments and banking.

However, several people have mocked Musk and pointed out that searching for X – particularly for video content from the site – might lead some to a far more raunchy corner of the internet.

Barstool Sports' John Rich shared a screenshot with "X" typed into a search bar, with the search bar having predicted the rest of the URL and sent him to xvideos.com. Xvideos is – erm, apparently – a porn website.

"God damn it," was the caption on the tweet.

So many people pointed out this flaw in Musk's rebrand that the adult site started trending in some countries.

One tweet read: "Porn addicts after typing ‘xvideos’ into their browser just to be redirected to twitter," alongside videos of people crying.

Another person said: "Damn why is xvideos trending. Elon Musk what have u done. [sic]"

A third said: "Not Elon making it sound like a porn site omg. [sic]"

Others said they were concerned their favourite naughty website might crash if too much internet traffic was directed its way from Twitter.

The rebrand is just the latest major change Musk has made to Twitter since his controversial purchase of the social media platform last year.

He has previously come under fire for firing swathes of staff, creating the paid Twitter Blue feature, and limiting the number of tweets a person can see in a day.
