Woman asks if she’s wrong for evicting roommate after dog made too much mess

A woman has asked whether she’s wrong for evicting her flatmate after their dog made too much mess.

The woman, 24, told the social media platform that she lives in a two-bedroom flat and that two months ago her new flatmate, 23, moved in with her three-year-old chihuahua.

A self-confessed dog lover, she says she was fine with the pooch as long as her new flatmate, referred to in the post as ‘Rachel’ made sure it was clean and fed.

However, soon after the pair moved it was clear there were problems afoot, problems which led to the woman evicting her crying flatmate.

The final straw would come after the woman came home from work one day and endured something horrifying.

She explained: “The issue started, her dog was not potty trained at all, he would s*** everywhere.  For the first couple of weeks, she kept saying that it was a new place and, he would get used to it.

“‘Rachel’ would ‘try’ to clean it up but wouldn’t do a good job and then I obviously had to, because it would smell.

“There were days where the dog would behave but some days have lots of accidents and I didn’t see ‘Rachel’ trying anything to do actively to train him.”

After a series of accidents, the woman gave ‘Rachel’ an ultimatum. She said: “I told her two months in she needs to figure it out or she is out. I suggested we get an indoor dog potty tray. But she wasn’t too keen and said I would take him out often.”

The woman added she tried to train the dog after work: “I got that tray for him and tried to train him on that but I work long hours and when I am home I just want to rest.

“‘Rachel’ has a remote job, so she is at the house. Our apartment started to smell in different parts, and it was exhausting to thoroughly clean everything.

“My last straw was, that after an exhausting day, I came home, and the dog was in my room and the door was closed.

“I stepped into my closet and my barefoot landed straight on the poo.”

The woman added that after this incident, she “completely lost it”. She said: “I yelled that she shouldn’t have a dog if she can’t take care of it properly, and to give it away to a responsible person.”

After this, the woman told her flatmate to “pack her stuff and leave” at which point she reportedly “started crying”. Afterwards the now ex-flatmate “went to a friend’s house”.

The woman said that their “common called me and said that she was hysterical and that I shouldn’t have kicked her out because of the dog”.

Following her post, the woman asked Reddit whether she had been wrong to kick out her flatmate.

Most users were supportive of the woman’s decision. One wrote: “Everyone who thinks you are the asshole is free to offer her, her dog and its shit a room.

“You were very patient, and even offered solutions, but there must be a limit. A flat smelling like dog poo and my naked feet in fresh poo would be far beyond my limits.”

Another person said: “Nope you’re not wrong at all cause if she had the dog for 3 years then the dog should’ve already been trained plus you told her multiple times to clean up after the dog etc.

“I would’ve kicked her out the next week.”
