Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly have been hit with criticism just minutes into the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

The Geordie duo were back on our screens on Saturday (February 25) night.

They kicked off the shoe by welcoming the live audience back to the ITV studio at Television Centre in London.

However, fans were rubbed up the wrong way after Dec told jokingly told an audience member to "close your legs".

The remark didn't go down well and viewers at home rushed to discuss the moment on social media.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Close your legs #saturdaynighttakeaway."

Another added: "Close your legs? What a deeply inappropriate comment to make guys, come on #SaturdayNightTakeaway."

A third person moaned: "Ofcom complaints Monday morning."

Ant and Dec recently shared a teaser clip from their latest prank which feature This Morning presenter Alison Hammond.

In the first-look clip, Alison is seen entering a creepy-looking hotel with Ant and Dec lurking in a secret room on the premises.

Dubbing the hotel 'haunted', former Big Brother housemate Alison is seen in a guest room saying: "A million percent I'm not staying here."

The hotel was complete with eerie dolls along the walls, prompting Alison to comment: "This place is haunted. I feel it. I have an affinity with spirits."

Ant and Dec's prank very nearly went 'absolutely haywire' with Alison nearly getting away, leading Ant to admit: "I actually feel a bit sorry for her watching that."

In order to complete the prank, the duo had to ring the plant and get Alison into the restaurant for a drink, and then ring the driver and just get him away so she didn't have a car to go to.

Dec teased: "That is the one that very nearly didn't happen."

The nation's PE teacher and fitness guru Joe Wicks and Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman will also make special cameos in the upcoming series.

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway airs Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX
