Coronation Street spoilers: Spider's cover blown in huge showdown with Peter?

Spider Nugent’s (Martin Hancock) could be about to be exposed in Coronation Street as he’s forced to intervene in a showdown with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

The popular character, who made a shock return to the ITV soap earlier this year after a 19-year absence, is an undercover cop, secretly working a case.

Fans were blown away by the shock twist, which aired on Monday (September 12), as Spider met with DS Swain (Vicky Myers) in an alleyway to discuss his involvement with Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).

The residents of the cobbles remain in the dark about Spider’s true motivations for being back on the eponymous street, but it seems as though the truth could be set to out, after a violent protest erupts in upcoming scenes.

Pictures reveal Martin Nugent and Chris Gascoyne, who play Spider and Peter respectively, filming new scenes for the long-running soap on location.

Peter is thought to be leaving a club when he ends up in a confrontation with some heavies.

One of the thugs gets in Peter’s way, but Peter retaliates by pushing the bloke to the ground, which ultimately leads to more violence.

A protestor gets hold of a brick ad threatens to throw it at Peter, but Spider intervenes, holding his long-time neighbour back.

It’s currently unknown as to what exactly leads to the showdown, but it’s safe to say that these scenes are not to be missed.

The question is: with Spider having to get involved, will his status as an undercover cop be blown?

Will Peter discover that his old pal is secretly a member of the force, and if so, just what will he do with this information?

You’ll just have to tune in to find out!

Martin Hancock thinks Spider’s association with the police is an ‘interesting’ development for his character.

‘It’s not what you expect from Spider, which is great,’ he told Metro.co.uk.

‘It’s just a way of progressing the character and a new idea for the character. He’s still a very committed activist, but he’s doing it from inside the system.

‘I can’t give it all away, but there’s quite a powerful backstory behind why Spider went into the police. It’s very powerful, actually. In my mind, it works.’

Martin also teased that Corrie has another big storyline in the pipeline for his character, and we’re excited already.

‘I don’t want to give away a major storyline we’ve got coming up,’ he said, choosing his words carefully.

‘There’s a few issues in the world today which we’re going to address. There’s some quite nasty stuff going on and we’re going to start dipping into that. What he’s doing is going after some very dangerous stuff.’

Consider us intrigued.
