EastEnders fans are "convinced" they know who Lily Slater's baby's father is after "pretty clear" hints on the BBC One soap.

Viewers were left floored on Sunday's New Year's Day episode as Stacey Slater learnt that her daughter Lily, 12, is pregnant in a huge twist.

Lily's mum Stacey was stunned when she was told the news by a doctor at hospital, after a carbon monoxide leak at home meant the whole family had to go to hospital to be checked out.

And during Monday's episode, Stacey faced new heartache as she had to speak to detectives and social workers about her daughter's pregnancy with them saying: "When a child as young as Lily finds herself in this situation, our main concern is making sure she's safe."

They added: "We've discussed Lily's circumstances and we've agreed we need to be conducting a Child Protection Investigation alongside a criminal investigation."

Stacey was then grilled about her daughter as she was asked about her recent behaviour, if Lily had any new friendships and whether she monitors her phone to which she said: "No, I trust her!"

Towards the end of the episode, Stacey went to see her daughter as she had to drop the news that she is pregnant in emotional and hard-hitting scenes.

A devastated Lily asked her mum to not tell anyone as Stacey asked who the father is to which her daughter said: "No, it doesn't matter," insisting she hadn't been abused and wasn't in danger.

It remains to be seen what is next for Stacey and Lily, and who the father is, but some soap watchers think it could be Ricky Mitchell, also 12, after "pretty clear" hints.

Viewers pointed out that Ricky, whose parents are Jack Branning and Sam Mitchell, has been sneaking out recently over the past few weeks to "meet friends", which fans think is actually Lily.

Recalling one episode in November, it saw teenager Ricky smiling texting someone before asking to go "see a mate" and the next day Lily was seen smiling while on her phone.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "14/11/22. Ricky stuck up for Lily during an argument with Amy. Hidden a text on his phone.

"Left Amy’s bday party to see a mate. Next morning said he’ll be home late. Next morning Lily smiling at her phone hiding it away from Stacey. Could this of been the day?"

A different account put: "I really think the father of Lily's baby is Ricky Jr. Thinking back, there have been loads of little scenes where he's taking calls or dashing off somewhere, but noone really notices. He's been very much under the radar recently as has Lily & I think this is why. #EastEnders."

Another viewer wrote: "Ricky is 100% the dad to lily's baby #Eastenders."

A different soap watcher put: "Ricky Jr, the hints are pretty clear #EastEnders."

While another fan added: "On more than one occasion there have been little moments with ricky where he sneaks off quietly, leading me to believe that he is the father of lily’s baby. #EastEnders."
