EastEnders fans were left wanting answers after the soap aired a surprising twist regarding Ryan Malloy.

The absent dad of Lily Slater returned to Albert Square after six years following the discovery that his 12-year-old daughter is pregnant.

During the episode, Ryan met up with both his ex Stacey Slater and Lily in the café where he gave the youngster a £50 voucher.

Despite appearing to have good intentions, it was revealed at the end of the episode that Ryan plans to take Lily and her baby away from Walford for good.

Speaking to his prison officer wife Helen on the phone, he said: "Hey, listen, what you said last night… you still want to go through with it?

"Lily and the baby are going to be better off with us, trust me, Helen, this place… she deserves better. I don't want to fight dirty but if I have to Helen. I will do whatever it takes, alright?"

Fans were stunned as Ryan's ulterior motive was revealed, with many demanding answers.

One person questioned: "Ryan’s planning on trying to take lily? Is this Helen putting ideas in his head or a team effort?"

Another penned: "Omg Ryan’s gonna try and take Lily away with him. Why?!" #EastEnders."

"Ryan actually wants custody of Lily?," wondered a third.

Ahead of his brief stint, actor Neil McDermott spoke about his return and confirmed his character was back with an agenda.

"Ryan comes back with a bit of an agenda of his own," he explained.

The soap star continued: "He’s of course not been around for a while, so whatever he thinks should be the right thing, isn’t going to be taken too well by Stacey and other members of the Square.

"We learn that he’s doing alright for himself and has money that could help the situation."

The actor added: "He’s carefully trying to tread his way through to become a bigger part of Lily’s life, but it's whether or not Stacey, Lily and the family want him around."

But how will Stacey react when she finds out her ex wants to take her daughter away?
