Emmerdale viewers already know that Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) is having a tough time of late.
After being wrongly convicted of Ben Tucker’s (Simon Lennon) murder, Liv is serving a prison stretch, as Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) desperately tries to clear her name and prove that it was Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) who actually committed the crime.
But this week viewers of the ITV soap will be even more worried after Liv’s horrifically attacked in prison and then brutally left for dead.
The nasty confrontation occurs after Vinny visits Liv to tell her that until Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) wakes up and reveals what happened with evil Meena, she will have to continue her life behind bars.
The news understandably breaks Liv and the recovering alcoholic decides that the only way she can seek comfort is at the bottom of a bottle.
She begs her cellmate Mel for alcohol, but the conversation takes a sudden turn for the worse when Mel sees red.
Next thing she knows, Liv is lying face down in her cell, unresponsive and clearly in a very bad way.
Now, in a first-look, teaser clip that's been released to tease the scenes that will air this week, fans can see the outcome of Liv’s attack, as she lies in her hospital bed beaten and bruised.
As Vinny goes to visit Liv in an attempt to comfort her and find out what happened, she reveals how low she is feeling and how she wishes the attack had left her dead.
In scenes that air on Tuesday (18 January) Vinny can be seen asking what happened between Liv and Mel.
A despondent Liv replies: “I should be made up, shouldn’t I? Just enjoying that I’m in prison where I’m probably going to spend the rest of my life.”
“And I’m probably going to die inside, like my dad. I needed a drink, again. And I was going to do whatever it took to get hold of one, again.”
As Vinny looks disappointed with Liv’s confession, she reassures him she’s still sober, explaining that Mel “beat the hell out of her” before she had the chance to drink.
Liv then continued: “You know what’s funny, well ironic. She really laid into me. Don’t get me wrong, I pushed her into it deliberately.”

Vinny goes on to push Liv on why she provoked Mel. She answers, “Because I couldn’t get a drink and I needed some other way to forget.”
“But right now I'm just disappointed that this battering wasn’t enough to stop me waking up. There’s always next time…”
