Jai Sharma (played by Chris Bisson) was kicked to the curb by his partner Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) after confessing to fraudulently taking out a £50,000 loan in her name earlier this week. The Emmerdale businessman was left living out of his car following his betrayal on Thursday’s double-bill of the ITV soap. With the chances of Laurel forgiving him looking slim, will the character be forced to flee the village for good?
On the latest instalment of the show, a group of youngsters, including Laurel’s son Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) probed Jai over why he had been “sat in the car for ages”.
The businessman replied: “I just had some work calls to make and I didn’t want my boss’ sister shouting at me for bringing my work home again.”
Arthur fumed: “Calling it home again, are you? Whenever you say it’s just for a bit it always means forever.”
However, Jai snapped back: “Look, you are way too young to be so cynical you know that don’t you?
“Me and your mum have been rowing okay and that’s just what happens to grown-ups sometimes but we will work through it.
“Come on, you know there’s a lot of love there and we are strong, aren’t we? We are a family and we will get it sorted.”
A desperate Jai told Arthur he was trying to do his best for everyone in his life, but Arthur was not convinced he was being sincere.
Meanwhile, Laurel vented to her friends about how “much of an idiot” Jai made her feel by defrauding her.
“It’s not that I haven’t thought of a thousand grizzly deaths for him, but you know, [I have to think of] the kids,” she exclaimed.
Later on, Jai paid a visit to see his sister Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) and his father Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) who wanted to help him.
A frantic Jai told them: “I do what I always do when things go wrong for me, I went out and scored.
“I didn’t take it. I wanted to but I stopped myself as I can’t go back there again.”
Priya and Rishi encouraged Jai to seek help from a professional about his addiction problems, with his sister saying: “Have you spoken to your sponsor?”
Jai admitted he had not reached out to his sponsor so Priya asked whether he wanted her to make the phone call for him.
A distraught Jai replied: “I should have kept on driving and done you all a favour.”
However, Rishi said: “There’s always going to be a place for you here no matter what.”
The pair assured Jai everything would be okay and he decided to call his sponsor.
However, Emmerdale viewers have seen just how capable Jai is of lying in recent weeks after swindling money from Laurel.
Could he be lying about wanting to get help for his drug addiction?
Will the character be forced to flee the village after his family refuse to put a roof over his head if he doesn’t seek help?
Emmerdale continues on weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
