GB News host Simon McCoy tells ‘idiot’ trolls to ‘grow up’ after X-rated prank

GB News presenter Simon McCoy had some stern words for trolls pranking his new current affairs show this week, urging the naughty viewers to "grow up".

This comes after the "anti-woke" British news station – which launched on Sunday led by front man Andrew Neil – seemed to be trolled by crafty pranksters watching the show.

The team of trolling viewers apparently sent in some rather rude and suspicious looking names – "Mike Hunt" and "Mike Oxlong" – which the channel's presenters then read out live on air for the nation to hear.

The awkward rude-name gaffe occurred on two separate occasions on Tuesday's broadcast (June 15) within the space of just a couple of hours – prompting Twitter users to flock to their feeds with jokes after presenters Alex Phillips and Michelle Dewberry read out the names.

Former BBC News anchor Simon had seemingly had enough of the jokes and decided to address his viewers directly during his show on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking to his viewers, he said: "I’m just going to say something because if you’ve seen the papers, if you’ve seen Twitter, some people think it’s really funny to send in texts and messages on the basis that if we read them out we’ve been had.

“And you’re still doing it, and I’m watching them, and it doesn’t help anybody.”

Simon's co-host Alex Phillips then weighed in to support him, saying: "We’re just not going to read surnames from now on."

Simon then urged the jokers to stop, and he didn't mince his words.

Simon continued: "Well… to the person that's just messaged in… grow up!

"We’re a new company, we’re a new broadcaster, there are systems that we’re putting in place that would stop idiots like you getting through. They’re getting through at the minute but… please? We’ve got other things to worry about."

Alex agreed, saying: "Come on, now".

Simon then saw the funny side of the previous technical difficulties the channel has suffered since its launch, and he quipped: "Mind you if you can hear us, that’s an improvement. All of you with serious views, we still welcome them."

However, this segment was immediately interrupted by another of the aforementioned technical problems that have plagued the channel over the last few days.

During GB News' explosive launch night, presenter and chairman Andrew Neil set out his agenda for the station by saying it will "puncture the pomposity of our elites in politics, business, media and academia” and "expose the growing promotion of cancel culture for the threat to free speech and democracy that it is".
