Gogglebox's Helena Worthington has spoken about the response to her breastfeeding on the show, saying that it angered some viewers. The 29-year-old was seen breastfeeding her new-born son Erwin during a 2019 episode.
The family picked up the TRIC Award for Best Entertainment Show on behalf of Gogglebox this week. Speaking to OK! in an exclusive interview after the win, Helena opened up about showing her family on the programme.
"Well, Erwin was on it. So Erwin was on it when he was first born and I don't remember any of that cause I was incredibly tired and dehydrated.
"He's been on it recently. I think maybe we got three minutes worth of footage we could use out of seven or eight hours long."
Helena's dad George Worthington, who appears on the show alongside her and her mum Alison, chipped in: "You paved the way though, breastfeeding on TV!". "Oh yeah!" Helena added.
"I breastfed on telly and that angered some but it also people supported that as well. But yeah, it's one of the only jobs you can do- it's not a job," she said. "But I could do it with a little baby so there's not many jobs you could do where you can bring your kid to work."
Back in 2019, viewers praised Helena for "normalising" breastfeeding on TV. One fan wrote on Twitter: "LOVE how #Gogglebox is showing breastfeeding, so important to normalise it!"
Helena's three-year-old son Erwin, who she shares with her partner Daniel, made a surprise appearance on the show earlier this year. The toddler was seen playing a game with his mum and grandparents in an adorable striped jumper.
The artist lives with her partner and son in their colourful Manchester home. However, she films Gogglebox at her parents' house, telling OK!: "It takes an hour on the bus for me."
The Channel 4 series beat the likes of I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here and Strictly Come Dancing in the category of Best Entertainment Show at this week's TRIC Awards. Have I Got News For You and Bradley & Barney: Breaking Dad were also nominated.
Other winners at this year's TRIC Awards included A Place in the Sun, Good Morning Britain, Emmerdale, The Chase, The Peter Crouch Podcast, GB News, Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs and Roman Kemp. The awards were hosted by OK! columnist Judi Love and Robert Rinder, while charity fundraiser Kelsey Parker, Coronation Street 's Charlotte Jordan, Emmerdale 's Jeff Hordley and Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid walked the red carpet.
EastEnders star Danielle Harold was awarded for her performance as Lola on the soap, telling OK!:"I'm just taking it all in at the moment."
