Oprah Winfrey sat down to speak Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in a landmark interview in March of this year to talk about their decision to step down as senior royals and there hopes for the future. Oprah reunited with Prince Harry for documentary series The Me You Can’t See for Apple TV last month where the royal opened up about his mental health struggles following the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
In an explosive new interview, Thomas Markle has slammed Oprah claiming she is taking “advantage” of the couple.
Speaking to Australia’s 60 Minutes, he claimed Oprah has “tricked” the couple into speaking with her which led to the pair revealing things they should have kept secret.
“I have things to say. Oprah Winfrey, for one, I think is playing Harry and Meghan,” he told Tom Steinfort.
“I think she is using them to build her network and build her new shows.
“I think she’s taken advantage of a very weakened man and has got him to say things that you just shouldn’t be saying on television.”
Thomas added: “She will disagree of course, and she may even sue me, I don’t care.
“But the bottom line is she is working Harry.”
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Oprah Winfrey for comment.
The latest interview comes just over a week after it was announced Meghan had given birth to his granddaughter Lilibet Diana.
Thomas has yet to meet grandson Archie and is “disappointed” by the way in which he heard about Lilibet’s birth.
“There’s always disappointment here,” he commented. “Lili is perfect and the other thing that makes me happy is that there is a lot more Markle blood in the Royal Family.”
He shared his hopes of meeting of seeing both of his grandchildren commenting: “I’m a pretty good grandpa.”
Reflecting on Meghan’s birth he said he “fell in love with her” and will be “disappointed” if he does not get to hold Lilibet.
Thomas insisted he would never go to Montecito where the couple reside and knock on their door but instead hopes the family will visit his home.
“It’s a peaceful place,” Thomas explained. “I’d like Meghan and Harry to come here…
“I would never do that [knock on their door]. That makes me a stalker. I’m not a stalker.
“She knows where I live. He knows where I live. Harry is invited to come down any time he wants, alone or with Meghan, and she’s invited to come by herself or with Harry.”
He added with Father’s Day just around the corner he would “love” for to meet his grandchildren then.
It comes as Meghan and Harry have been urged to return to the UK for Lilibet’s christening to help repair bridges.
Speaking to Palace Confidential on Mail+, Mr Lloyd said: “It would be nice for the Queen to meet her, nice for it to be documented and of course the baby would get to wear the royal christening robes.
“It would be a diplomatic and nice way of building bridges to have the whole family together to celebrate Lilibet’s arrival.”
