During Saturday’s BBC Breakfast, BBC hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt invited Dr Chris Smith and Professor Linda Bauld on to the show to talk about the latest developments surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. However, things soon took an unexpected turn when Charlie had an awkward exchange with Dr Smith.

Taking Charlie’s comment in good grace, the GP replied: “A massive congratulations and as Linda says, it’s really terrific to see.

“Talking to my friends and colleagues who work in universities and health care, we’ve really seen the emphasis placed on what science and medicine can do across the Covid pandemic.

“It has resulted in a lot of public support from the public for what scientists do and their efforts.

“I really think it has pushed science forward especially from an investment point of view.”

Charlie wouldn’t let his initial comment slide as he signed off the interview by reminding Dr Smith he didn’t have an OBE.

“Profession Linda Bauld OBE, thank you very much,” he commented.

“And Chris Smith as well.”

“Stop it,” Naga laughed as she told off her co-presenter. “That’s so bad.”
