Storm Keating vows to pick up daughter Coco, 1, 'soon' following emergency spinal surgery

STORM Keating has vowed to pick up daughter Coco, 1, "soon" following her emergency spinal surgery.

The fashion designer, 39, suffered from the "the most frightening week of my life" when she was was rushed to hospital with a "very bad prolapsed disc" last month.

Storm was later diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome and needed life changing surgery to correct it.

After a week in hospital, she managed to return home safe and sound to pop star husband Ronan Keating, and their two kids Cooper and Coco.

The mum-of-two spent this Easter weekend relaxing in the sunshine with her family.

Storm shared an adorable video of Coco running into her her arms, while Cooper waited for his mum to open his drink with her 172k followers on Instagram.

She captioned the post: "My babies ♥️ 10 days post surgery and I am doing great.

"One day soon I’ll be able to lift her up and into my arms again…

"The lord himself knows that every little piece of my heart and soul can’t wait!"

Fans flocked to the comments section to share their love and support.

One wrote: "Good to see you home with your family. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery❤"

Another said: "You are such a great mum ! get well soon."

A third added: "It will all come together but you are looking well xxx."

A fourth chimed in: "You're looking fantastic so soon after surgery, take care xx."

Cauda equina syndrome occurs when the nerve roots of the cauda equina become compressed, meaning that they go on to disrupt motor and sensory function to the lower extremities and bladder.

Describing her ordeal, alongside a picture of her in hospital, Storm told her followers last month: "On Saturday I was rushed in with what we already knew was a very bad prolapsed disc, which had more recently escalated to the point where it needed surgical intervention.

"Whilst stabilising in hospital however, this then escalated to Cauda Equina Compression/ Syndrome which required emergency spinal surgery to avoid permanent damage."

The star thanked all the specialists, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists for their help during her time in hospital.

What is Cauda equina syndrome?

Cauda equina syndrome is a rare and severe type of spinal stenosis where all of the nerves in the lower back suddenly become severely compressed.

Accroding to the NHS Symptoms include:

  • sciatica on both sides
  • weakness or numbness in both legs that is severe or getting worse
  • numbness around or under your genitals, or around your anus
  • finding it hard to start peeing, can't pee or can't control when you pee – and this isn't normal for you
  • you don't notice when you need to poo or can't control when you poo – and this isn't normal for you

Cauda equina syndrome requires emergency hospital admission and emergency surgery, because the longer it goes untreated, the greater the chance it will lead to permanent paralysis and incontinence.

She continued: “My little girl turns one year old tomorrow and I can’t wait to get home to her (just in time!) and to my amazing family who have been supporting each other and holding the fort together in my absence this last week.

'It couldn’t have been easy and especially knowing the way my baby @rokeating worries! So baba, @jackrkeating and @missyykeating you are my heroes and I love you and I can’t wait to get home and see you!!!!”

Storm concluded by telling her followers to “take care of their backs”.

She added: “I’m very lucky but I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on anyone.

"We share our highs on Insta but sometimes it’s good to share our lows too. This has been one of mine ❤️.”
