Strictly fans concerned for Will Mellor after message to Nancy in ‘goodbye speech’

Strictly Come Dancing returned to our screens on Sunday evening for the semi-final, but things didn't quite as well as hoped for Will Mellor and his dance partner Nancy Xu .

The duo performed a Paso Doble and received mixed reviews from the judges, with Shirley Ballas telling them: “There were quite a few things missing."

Though she said the duo “delivered a good strong message”, Shirley criticised the couple’s dance as she said to Will: “It collapsed every time you picked her up. The arms were too straight when they were out to the side.

"These are basic fundamentals from the very, very beginning, and they were very much missing from me.”

Meanwhile, Anton du Beke said he loved "some elements of the dance" while Craig Revel Horwood was in agreement with Shirley.

When Claudia Winkleman spoke with Will and Nancy after the dance, the actor looked upset, telling the host he felt "rubbish".

"I worked hard and I let her [Nancy] down a little bit there," he explained. "I am not fishing for compliments.

"She told me right and I've just gone too aggressive and she told me to be calm."

As Nancy tried to reassure Will, he added: "I tried, we are all in the same boat."

After receiving their scores from the judges, Will said, "I am sorry" to Nancy as he indicated that he was going home

Fans also grew concerned for Will's place in the competition, with one person on Twitter pointing out: "Will really uncomfortable standing there taking criticism and who wouldn't be #Strictly."

Another person said: "Will has well and truly been screwed over tonight.”

Someone else added: "Will can’t take criticism. Bottom lips going #strictly."

"It's not been Will's week," another user commented as someone else added: "Will to go this week. His time is up."

Poor Will also suffered from a "wardrobe malfunction" during his performance, which he only spotted after finishing the dance.

Standing next to Tess Daly after dancing, the actor was seen fiddling with his trousers, as he explained: "My button burst, I think."

"Bit tight these pants," he added, while Tess appeared to become somewhat flustered, replying with: "Oh gosh, they are quite tight" and joking that he had had a "wardrobe malfunction."

Due to the World Cup, this week's live show moved from its usual Saturday night slot to Sunday, with the results show airing tonight (Monday 12 December), meaning fans will have an extra day to wait to find out who will be making the final of Strictly 2022.
