The 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing is finally underway with BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker and 14 other famous faces now paired with their chosen professional dancers for the upcoming competition. Dan has been paired with Nadiya Bychkova for his stint on the show, with the pair both visibly elated when they first got together during Saturday’s launch show. To discuss their upcoming partnership further on Monday’s BBC Breakfast, however, Nadiya was quickly grilled by presenter Sally Nugent for giving away a “big secret” about their first routine this coming weekend.
The revelation came after Sally and Dan welcomed Nadiya to the sofa before cutting to Morning Live’s Gethin Jones and Janette Manrara to see what they had in store.
Discussing Strictly, Gethin said to Janette: “What a brilliant launch show it was, so you’re giving your verdicts on the partnerships are you?”
“I am in a little bit,” Janette replied before Gethin joked about Dan: “What did you make of that guy off Breakfast, you know, Dan, the one with the long arms and long legs?”
“Well, he got Nadiya which is amazing,” Janette replied as Dan could be heard chuckling. And I have seen them rehearsing a little bit and I think we’re in for some good stuff from those two.”
“Good to hear Nadiya, isn’t it?” Dan said as the cameras returned to Breakfast, with Sally also commenting: “Promising big things already.”
But Dan remained cautious as he added: “We’ve got a lot to work on Nadiya, haven’t we? But that’s a seal of approval from Janette so that’s a good one already.”
Nadiya then revealed she’d been showing Janette clips of Dan from training as the Strictly pros share tips and tricks.
As the rest of his co-stars began to joke about Dan, the BBC presenter joked he was feeling “uncomfortable” under the spotlight before Sally turned to Nadiya to see how she was doing.
Saying how lovely it was to have Nadiya on the famous sofa for the first time, however, the Strictly pro soon followed up by giving away a “big secret”.
“It’s the first time,” Nadiya said as she stroked the BBC Breakfast sofa. “But it’s very exciting because we’re going to use this kind of sofa in our first dance and this table.”
Shocked by Nadiya’s revelation, Sally quickly asked: “Are you allowed to say that? Is that a big secret?”
“It is, it is,” Nadiya replied before Dan weighed in: “She can do what she likes Nadiya.”

With the details of their first dance coming to light, Dan went on: “Now I get told all the time I can’t stand on this table…”
But Nadiya tried to put Dan’s mind at ease: “I’m sure on Strictly they’re going to build a table on which you can’t just stand but maybe do a little dance.
“On the table, on the sofa, around the floor – everywhere,” Nadiya added.
“I cannot wait,” Sally jumped in. “I think I’m actually the most excited on this sofa.”
But the routine and set weren’t the only details from their first dance Dan and Nadiya shared as they revealed they’d be dancing the Quickstep to Everybody Needs Somebody to Love by the Blues Brothers.
“Are we giving away too many secrets here?” Sally probed after learning about the son.
“We’re not gonna get in trouble are we?” a nervous Dan asked to which Nadiya joked: “It’s too late.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
