Susanna Reid admits Piers Morgan is still ‘really important person’ in her life

Susanna Reid worked with Piers Morgan for six years on the set of Good Morning Britain, and the co-hosts were one of the breakfast show’s most popular presenter pairings.

They were so close that Piers previously dubbed Susanna his “TV wife”.

But last year, Piers made a dramatic exit from the show when he stormed off set after a disagreement with weather presenter Alex Beresford.

During the next airing of the show, Susanna told viewers that she and Piers “disagreed on many things” and she also described him as an “outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster”.

Later that day, he quit the ITV show after a personal complaint from Meghan Markle to the broadcaster.

But a year on from his explosive departure, we’ve taken a look at how Susanna is doing without Piers, and what she thinks of the presenter now.

Why did Piers Morgan leave Good Morning Britain?

Before he left, Piers had come under fire for comments he made on the show, which cast doubts on Meghan Markle’s claims that she’d experienced suicidal thoughts during her time with the Royal Family.

He said: "I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn't believe her if she read me a weather report."

His comments sparked outrage among viewers and led to more than 41,000 Ofcom complaints.

Piers refused to apologise for his remarks and walked off set the next day when he was challenged by Alex Beresford.

Two days after he made the comments, Piers confirmed that he still wouldn’t be making an apology.

He tweeted: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t.

“If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

What is Susanna Reid doing now?

After Piers left the show, Susanna Reid continued on as a host of Good Morning Britain, with a rotation of co-presenters including Richard Madeley replacing Piers.

And her career has continued to thrive. She recently made headlines after reporting live from the Ukrainian border during the start of the Russian invasion.

Reid has also released a documentary this year, where she spoke to the women on death row in America.

But she’s now decided to focus more on her family. She told The Sun: “I’ve made the decision this year because my boys are doing GCSE and A levels, it is really important for me that I am present.”

Reid said that she plans to stay on Good Morning Britain, but that she will be turning down “extra work”.

What does Susanna Reid think about Piers Morgan now?

A year on from her professional split with Piers, Susanna has reflected on her time with her controversial co-host and has opened up about what their relationship is like now.

She told The Sun: “We stay in touch and he’s a really important person in my life. We had such an amazing time and that was an incredible dynamic.

"He really put his imprint on the programme and it was very powerful. I remember early on, the rows about the role of women and feminism, and those arguments felt like the big issue at the time, and then, of course, we moved on to Brexit and Trump.

“We went through some really difficult times together as a team and those were very powerful moments."

In April, Piers also opened up about regrets over his split from TV wife Susanna during a virtual press event ahead of his return to TV.

He said: “It’s difficult, you know. We had this arranged marriage and it turned out to be very successful. And then we suddenly got divorced one afternoon, that was it.

“I went from seeing Susanna Reid in her curlers and her nightie every day at four in the morning to not seeing her.

"We stay in touch through texting and stuff, but it was all a bit dramatic and sad, really. I think we both feel that.”
