The Bachelor: Zach Shallcross dumps Gabi Elnicki

ABC’s long-running dating series The Bachelor came to an explosive end after it was revealed Zach Shallcross broke his “no-sex” rule. As the finalists confronted him, viewers also took to social media and fumed at his antics. 

After spending a tumultuous season 27 sifting through 30 women, Zach finally made it to the finale, which saw him decide between Gabi Elnicki and Kaity Biggar. 

On their final dates, Zach and Kaity adventured on a scenic Thailand hike, before he took Gabi horse riding along the beach. 

Fans are well aware that during the “Fantasy Suite” episode the bachelor would usually become intimate with the final three contestants. 

However, Zach made an abstinence vow and stated: “What feels right to me is not to explore sexual connections with three different women before falling in love.” 

“Like, when sex is involved, it can cause so many additional hurdles and real feelings are at stake. It shouldn’t be taken lightly,” he added.

Despite this, Zach broke his own rule as he had sex with Gabi. 

During the finale, viewers raged at the 26-year-old for sleeping with Gabi and later proposing to Kaity.

A furious @SACrockettJr tweeted: “Do you know how cold-blooded you have to be to have sex with a contestant knowing you aren’t going to choose her.?”

@beau_afr added: “So Zach always knew it was Kaity but still stringed Gabi along and lied to her face saying the decision is so hard for him?? Bffr.” (sic)

A third viewer @orangemeatball noted: “Zach broke Gabi’s heart. And he doesn’t seem to care.”

An upset @ElleLynne5 wrote: “I’m legit sad for Gaby. He led her on until the last possible second.”

As @laurie_guilbeau claimed Zach cares more about feeling like he is a good person than about respecting women’s boundaries.”

An enraged @SleuthSports tweeted: “Zach’s biggest and most repeated lie is that he’s honest.”

At the time he broke his rule, Zach stated: “We both agreed and wanted to have sex together. 

“And it was very special, it was important, and it was what we both wanted and needed for the relationship.

“I feel terrible because obviously I’ve gone against my word and I have, like, fears with how Kaity would feel, how would Ariel feel, how would all the women feel. And I just feel a guilt about the whole week now.”

During the finale, he owned up to his misstep, however, finalist Ariel Frankel revealed she only learned about it when she watched the episode. 

While Gabi admitted she felt “blindsided” by Zach’s choice to tell Kaity that they had slept together. 

She told him: “We decided that it was going to be between us.

“We said that that night. And I remember I was brushing my teeth, you came up behind me, you kissed me on the back of my head, you said, ‘This is just between us.’

“And I said, ‘Yes, this is just between us.’”
