This Is Us is one of the world’s most popular sitcoms, a heartfelt and emotional series that has been running on NBC since 2016. The stars of This Is Us, including one of the series leads, Mandy Moore, have been open over the years about their love for the show, regularly talking about the joys of working on such a well-crafted show.
Recently, with the series finale in sight, Moore sat down with the TODAY Show to talk about what fans can expect in the series finale, and why she finds the series ending to be particularly “heartbreaking.”
Mandy Moore first became famous in the early 2000s
Moore entered the spotlight when she was a child, pursuing a career in the music industry. In the ’90s, Moore was signed to a record contract, and while she was working on her debut album, she started touring with the Backstreet Boys.
In 1999, Moore released her first single, “Candy.” The song became a hit, propelling Moore to fame as a teen idol.
All while Moore continued to work on her music career, she was acting in film and television roles as well. A few of her early, high-profile parts included roles in movies like The Princess Diaries and A Walk to Remember.
Over the years, as Moore matured, she kept acting, appearing in primarily romantic comedies. In 2010, Moore became a Disney star when she voiced the character of Princess Rapunzel in the hit animated film Tangled.
Mandy Moore enjoyed a career resurgence after starring in ‘This Is Us’
In 2016, Moore was cast as Rebecca Pearson in the NBC series This Is Us. Moore has not only earned thousands of new fans thanks to her work in the show, but she has received critical recognition as well — scoring two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and getting nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
This Is Us is set to end after the upcoming sixth season — and while fans are upset about the prospect, the show’s stars are just as affected. In a recent interview, Moore opened up about how it has been to film the final season, and the emotional roller-coaster that it has taken her on.
What did Mandy Moore say about the ‘heartbreaking’ series finale of ‘This Is Us’?
In an interview with the TODAY Show, Moore revealed that she is still coping with the upcoming ending of This Is Us. “I don’t think that I’m emotionally ready to accept that this is the end,” Moore said. “I know we have 18 more episodes. We haven’t started shooting our final season yet, but this is the best job I’ve ever had and the fact that I won’t be with this work family anymore, it’s devastating. It’s heartbreaking for us, too.”
The actor also admitted that for a while, she held out hope that the series would be renewed for additional seasons, to no avail: “Dan Fogelman, our creator, has been very steadfast from the beginning that this show is six seasons. We have a story that we’re sort of working towards, so it’s challenging to sort of stretch that in any way.”
For fans, as well as for Moore, the ending of This Is Us will be the end of an era. The good news is there’s a season left.
