This Morning viewers were left baffled on Friday after TV host Matthew Wright appeared on the show to talk about the ongoing pandemic.

This TV regular is no stranger to the ITV sofa but his unusual new hairstyle sparked an online meltdown.

Matthew, 55, now has a small ponytail at the back of his head held in place with a tight elastic band.

While neither the former journalist nor the This Morning co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary commented on the look, fans quickly flooded to social media.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Oh god Matthew’s hair a joke."

Another added: "Has Matthew Wright got an old man pony tail?"

"What is that on the back of Matthew Wright's head. It looks like Rodney's ponytail," a third joked, referencing the Only Fools and Horses legend.

Meanwhile, a fourth chimed in: "Feeble ponytail Matthew."

A fifth commented: "So I think we can all agree that the main topic in the view this morning was Matthew Wright's ponytail."

Matthew has made no secret about his hatred for Covid deniers over the past few months – slamming those who play down the pandemic.

He recently let rip at Hollywood legend Bruce Willis – branding the actor a "c**k" after he was snapped out and about in Los Angeles not wearing a face mask.

Bruce later released a statement insisting his lack of face covering was an "error in judgment".

Matthew has also taken aim at the ever rising number of celebs jetting off for winter holidays as the UK faces its third lockdown.

More and more reality TV stars have been seen living it up in Dubai – though have told fans they are out there for work and business opportunities.

Government guidelines currently ban all international travel apart from necessary business trips.
