Phillip Schofield made a cheeky dig at Sue Gray’s Downing Street inquiry on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning, joking that she has ‘commented on a few knobs’.

The senior civil servant is investigating whether or not Prime Minister Boris Johnson broke the rules of lockdown following several allegations of parties at No 10. Her highly anticipated report is set to be made public any time now.

Presenter Phil couldn’t help but poke fun at government ministers as he sat down with co-host Rochelle Humes and guests Camilla Tominey and Matthew Wright to discuss the cancellation of Dorset’s knob-throwing festival.

‘World famous knob throwing festival has been cancelled due to a supply issue,’ Phil read.

‘The knobs got too big…,’ Camilla remarked. ‘That could be problematic for the people of Dorset.

‘I’m wondering if I should wait to comment on this before Sue Gray reports. I think she might need to carry out an inquiry.’

‘She’s commented on quite a few knobs as a matter of fact,’ Phil laughed.

‘I’m not sure there’s a shortage,’ Rochelle quipped. ‘That’s all I’ll say.’

We have no words.

Phil’s jibe comes as police launched their own probe into multiple events in No 10 after being passed information from the Gray inquiry.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick said investigations into historic allegations of Covid regulation flouting were carried out in cases of the ‘most serious and flagrant’ breaches, and when it was considered those involved ‘ought to have known that what they were doing was an offence’.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman signalled that Mr Johnson would be willing to speak to those at Scotland Yard investigating the alleged breaches of coronavirus rules over the past two years.

However, he said the Prime Minister believes he has not broken the law.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
